Terraria has been kicking around for some time, but the development team behind has been going pretty strong with continued support and new content for it. Locke was a fan of it on the PC back in 2011, and the game has only improved from there.

At Long Last, Terraria Announced for Wii UJohn Bardinelli

Wii U owners aren't feeling left out or anything. It's not like Terraria has been released for every mobile device, handheld gaming machine, and both current and previous generation console on the market, including Amazon's FireTV, which you totally forgot existed until I just mentioned it. Bitterness aside, Nintendo's systems are usually the last holdouts for popular multi-system titles like Terraria and Minecraft. In fact, the 3DS version of Terraria was only released in December 2015, two years after the Vita release. Oops.

Tons of new items, features and fixes make an appearance in this latest update. Wanna drink some Terraria sake? Now you can! How about pad thai? Or maybe you'd rather put on your magic hat and kimono, pick up a water gun and head outside to shoot some ducks and worms? Hey, it's your world. We only judge you if you happen to be playing co-op with us.

With the invading swarms to fend against comes loads of other bug fixes, new items, new enemies, and gameplay tweaks. A lot of the extras are Christmas themed, such as the Christmas Tree Sword or Razorpine weapons and elf hats. New enemies include Present Mimics, Yetis, Nutcrackers, Zombie Elves and Gingerbread foes. Yes, the release is 10 months away from Christmas. Moon invaders are apparently that cruel.

Just in time for the season where that fat guy in the red suit comes 'round, Terraria mobile gets its share of goodies thanks to the new release. Tons of tweaks, updates, additions and extras have been added in the 1.2 update, including over 1,000 new items, 100 new enemies, four new bosses, and something about a gun that shoots rainbows. Yeah, the extras are way too big to list, but this handy bullet point thingie should get you started:

Amidst new ores, new bricks, new bosses, new enemies and about 1,000 new items, there is a touch of disappointing news. Terraria One (our name, kinda catchy, yes?) doesn't seem to carry any extra functionality like the original announcement suggested. The game is on-par with consoles in terms of item availability and version number, which is fine, we suppose. But the price tag sits at just under 20 USD. We've spent our fair share of time with Terraria over the years and can definitely vouch for its worth, but it seems an odd price point to launch with, especially since the PC version is half that.

If, for some bizarre reason, you haven't heard of Terraria, let me paint you a word-picture.  Imagine that you and a couple friends have spent the last few hours attempting to summon to your realm a floating, eldritch eye.  Some of your comrades had doubts about constructing the demonic altar necessary to persuade the creature to cross paths with your dimension, but you were relentless.  At long last, the forbidden task is complete, and the glowing eye lies staring at you.  One of your group, a dissenter from the start, grabs the eye from atop the altar and rushes out into the darkness of night, determined to destroy it.  Your attempts to stop him fail.  Standing there, alone, he raises a fist to the twilight sky, and crushes the nether-being in his palm.  A rumble in the distance startles you.  The ground begins to quake.  You know that the hour for battle has arrived.  Your party retreats to its fortress, a towering iron behemoth constructed through your own sweat and tears.  A gigantic eye, not unlike the one destroyed moments ago, emerges from somewhere in the earth.  Yngwie Malmsteen is also there, and he's playing a ripping solo.  Your showdown begins.

The update adds content already available in the PC and console versions of Terraria, bringing the Android port a little closer to its meatier cousins. There are over 20 new enemies to fight, 100 new items, new NPCs to unlock, new bosses and all-new biomes to wander through. The combat has also received a brushing up, allowing you to tap enemies to target them with auto-aim, which is especially useful with ranged weapons.

Terraria 1.2 adds a massive amount of content, bug fixes and tweaks to the sidescrolling sandbox game. There are new items, new bosses, new biomes, new events, new materials, new crafting recipes, and, well, a lot more. The full list of changes is quite a read. Here are a few of our favorite things:

Let's do a quick count here. Terraria was originally a PC game, then it made its way to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Mobile versions hit in late 2013, eventually adding co-op for both iOS and Android versions. A massive update was released for the PC version, practically turning it into a new game. And coming in last but not least, PlayStation Vita gets its turn at crafting and mining. At least it's a full-featured port that supports eight player co-op!

Up to four players can sit and share the exploration and mining via Wi-Fi, turning your once solitary world into a happening place where all the cool kids hang out. PvP is also available, in case you get mad at each other.
