Fans of Torchlght II may remember that word or an official editor has been passed around. In a great twist of humor, Runic Games decided to release the finished editor on April 1'st...except it wasn't a joke. The new editor is named GUTS, and it will allow players to create, tweak, customize, and explore new possibilities in the world of Torchlight II.

Runic refers to GUTS as their "in-house development tool." It allows for modification of almost anything in the game, such as skills, level layouts, animations, quests, and items. The mods created in GUTS can be easily shared with friends, and multiplayer games that utilize GUTS features can be found in the modded games lobby. There is also a new handy launcher that allows the player to choose which mods are currently active. When you play a modded game, you can view the mod history, previously played mods, and the impact that disabling a mod will have on your character as well.

I swear, whoever is in charge of setting up sales at Steam keeps an eye on our chatter here, because the past several PC co-op nights we've announced were accompanied by a Steam sale for the same game. Perhaps it's just coincidence, since Steam is always having sales, but I like to think we have some influence on the industry.

Runic Games sent out a tweet last night letting the world know that Torchlight 2 has done quite well since it launched in September on the PC.  The 6 player co-op, action/RPG has sold over 1 million copies to date.  Not bad for a game our community chose as their Indie Co-Op GOTY.  

Torchlight 2 went through a handful of delays throughout the year and almost found itself head to head with Diablo 3.  In the grander scheme of things, that never truly mattered as you can see, and Runic's game went on to do just fine on its own.

The game is normally priced $20, but you can grab Torchlight 2 right now on a Steam sale for $15.  You can also snag the co-op friendly 4 pack for $45.

September 20th, 2012.  Torchlight 2 finally has a release date thanks to a big announcement by developer Runic Games at PAX.  They definitely didn't want you to forget it as it was plastered all over their booth on the show floor.  With the game's release imminent, we sat down and played through a near final build of Act 2 in the game.  

Torchlight 2 has been an illusive tease for quite some time now. We've been positively aching for this game while Runic has been polishing it until it shines. It seems as if our prayers have finally been answered, however: the official word is that Torchlight 2 will release September 20th, a paltry three weeks from now!

Some things just need a little more time to cook before they’re well done, much like how Torchlight 2 is coming along. Runic Games has decided to officially delay the game’s release to properly balance and polish the final product.

It is always a privilege to talk to Runic Games, and this time at E3 2012 we were able to sit down and play through Torchlight 2 with them. We checked out the four classes, the pets, and of course the loot and I must say that it is shaping up to be an amazingly fluid action rpg experience.

Torchlight 2 is now up on Steam available for Pre-Order, simply listed with a "Summer" release.  The game is listed at $19.99, but there's a few ways you can get more value for your money.  First, simply pre-ordering the game will net you a copy of the original Torchlight.  Seconds, you can snag a four pack of the game for $60, which is basically giving you a free copy of Torchlight 2!

The official Steam store page for the game also contains new footage of Torchlight 2 in action as well as a handful of new screenshots.  

Torchlight 2 will be available for the PC this summer and feature 8 player online and LAN co-op.

We have a new cinematic story trailer for Torchlight 2 today. It features a lady hero, a dude hero, and a lot of the color brown, which is odd. Both Torchlight games are very colorful, and you would think developer Runic Games wouldn't hide that fact. Even though the video has a dull muted color it's full of action. If is looks a little Shank-esque, that's because the folks over at Klei Entertainment lent a hand. Check it out and give us your two cents.

One of the fun aspects of Torchlight was the pet system. Characters were accompanied by a cat or dog companion who would faithfully guard their side and run to and from town selling their phat lewts. Upcoming Torchlight 2 will also feature pets, but this time with even more choices. Players will be able to choose between at least 8 different pets, and Runic's latest pet video shows them off, showcasing the latest addition: the Papillon. This pet is actually based off of Runic's office mascot, Falcor! Check out the full video below.

Torchlight 2 was supposed to see the light of day last year, but we were told to just go play some other awesome games while Runic continues to make Torchlight 2 awesome.  So here we are a month away from the biggest PC release in years, that would be Diablo 3, and there's still no official word on Torchlight 2's status.  

What we do have is a quote from Runic head honcho Max Schaefer that sheds some light on the game's release goals.

Sometimes it's hard to find a good co-op partner. Work, school, family, friends, time zones, and work (I know I mentioned it twice) are always conspiring to hinder co-op play. What's an adventurous gamer to do? The makers of Torchlight 2 have a solution: bring a pet.

Okay, familiars and pets are nothing new, but developer Runic Games has added a few new backpack-laden creatures to the mix. They all seem pretty cute a cuddly with one notable exception. *cough* chakawary *cough* The following video shows the pets... well, not really in action. They're kind of just lounging around doing nothing. Heck, if that's all it takes to be a pet in Torchlight 2, the pugs snoring at my feet could make the cut. I hope these creatures are a little more fierce when called to action. Check out the video. Aren't they cute? 

Despite a previous commitment that could only be broken by the death of a staff member, Torchlight 2 has been delayed out of 2011.  Don't worry, nobody is dead.  Runic Games developer Travis Baldree tells all on the official site that a delay into early next year is the best thing for everyone.  Obviously quality is a big concern on their part and it seems that Runic doesn't feel what is there is up to their high standards.

It might not be 100% delayed because of development issues too, there might be a little bit of marketing behind it.  After all - it's the fall gaming season and we have way too much to play already.
