Our Weekend In Gaming: 16XEnoch Starnes

Of course, we've got plenty of other items on ol' Weekend Agenda.  Eric's planning on getting swarmed by aliens on live television, Sam's introducing his nephews to the world of fisticuffs, and Jason's defending America from an army of totally-not-Chinese invaders.  Sounds like a blast, huh?

Don't Stop the Geekin' is very similar in tone to my first book. It's full of stories from my childhood in the 80s, growing up in a world that was much less friendly to geeks than it is now. There are some funny moments, some cringey moments, and plenty of pop culture references that 80s kids will appreciate. Here's an excerpt that Co-Optimus fans might enjoy, from the second chapter, "The Summer of Ms. Pacman".

First the good things - the game's presentation is a huge step up. It integrates real time score tracking and stats utilizing the sidebars of what's typically just a static marquee. You'll be able to see if you are keeping pace with your previous high scores or the global ones at anytime. The in in-game transitions and scenes between levels are much more cinematic, the game never takes you out of flight. All of the expected goodies are here too for combat - three weapon types, three ships, and a variety of modifiers for them.

There weren't a whole lot of details provided about the zombie mode for Infinite Warfare, unfortunately. Activision stated that it will feature a whole new storyline and new mechanics, but that's about it. More information about the zombies would be given "later this year." Hopefully those details will include how many players will be supported and whether it will be part of the game at launch or added in later as part of DLC.

When development first began on Stardew Valley in 2012, Barone had intended to incorporate a four-player co-op mode into the game. Game development, though, isn't easy and the mode had to be put off so the title could be completed and shipped. Thanks to the success it's enjoyed, though, that feature can be put back on the table and the title's publisher, Chucklefish, will work on getting it integrated.

For gamers, VR will lift the experience by uniting them together in parallel worlds. As well as being able to exist in the same virtual space, the new VR will project gamers’ real world images into the very space they occupy. This means that while your friend may be in Japan while you’re in America, you can meet, see and hear one another’s presence in the same space. It’s incredible stuff and the power of co-op VR doesn’t stop there. Let’s take a closer look at a few of the areas where VR and the co-op experience are going to alter how we live and interact forever.

Given current trends, I also suspect that the Co-Opticrew will be entirely tabletop focused by 2018.  Between the meta-CCGs (collectible card games), the RPGs (role-playing games), and the CFGs (Cthulhu fhtagn games), our surfaces of choice will be getting quite the workout.

Those of us not trapped in Lovecraftian nightmares are spending our time watching Remedy's fake television shows, cleaning up the streets of New York, and making author appearances!  That's right, when we're not devoting our every waking moment to you co-op enthusiasts, some of us spend our slivers of free time writing fancy shmancy readin' books.  Who would've thought?
