Remedy's Next Project Will Focus on Cooperative MultiplayerJason Love

In a news post on their site, the Finnish developer stated that they are changing things up a bit. While acknowledging that they have largely focused on creating "exciting stories, memorable characters, believable worlds and cinematic action" within a single-player context, they want to try to bring all of that into a co-op experience.

As usual, our cooperative adventures will be taking us to every corner of the fictional universe.  Some of the staff will be in cutesy space, others will make their way through Metro City, and a few will explore... less cutesy space.  We're really running the space gamut here.

New For Me: Cross-Realm Play

If you have friends on other servers, as long as you're on the same faction, you can play together. You can even join cross-realm guilds, provided your servers are "connected". Each server has one (or sometimes two) servers linked in this way.

The Generations console, unlike the other products Retro-Bit produces, will actually come preloaded with 96 games that were largely arcade releases, some of which are local co-op titles (Captain Commando1942, and 1943), though there are a few Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Genesis and even Game Boy games on the list as well. The system itself, which isn't much bigger than an old Genesis controller, will have two USB ports on the front and two USB six-button controllers for all your couch co-op needs, an HDMI port (a first for Retro-Bit consoles), and a slot for an SD card so you can save and transfer game progress. The Generations console has no set release date, though it's expected to be sometime this fall, and will retail for $60.

While some of us have accepted our fates, others are staunchly resisting the inevitable flow of releases.  Our community manager, Eric, will be arguing the point that newer isn't always better on the stream tonight and, regardless of the outcome, it seems pretty likely that orcs will die by the hundreds.  I mean, they must, right?

It'll be a bit tougher to predict how things will go for the rest of the Co-opticrew.  Will World of Warcraft be good again?  Are Eric's sniper skillz actually "1337", or are they merely "sick"?  If Locke screams "I'm the Yahtzee King" in the woods, and all his friends and family are around to hear it, does he truly obtain the status of tabletop royalty?  Who's to say?  How about you take a look and determine that for yourselves.
