"The island is roughly the size of Downtown Paradise, but features gameplay unlike any other area in the game. Burnout Paradise Big Surf Island "Roughly the Size of Downtown Paradise"April 14th, 2009 at 5:48 PM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

Criterion Games has been fairly quiet of late, updating their official news blog with filler material...until now.

Once again teasing the approach of the highly anticipated Big Surf Island DLC pack for highway hit Burnout Paradise, Criterion has issued a simple-yet-solid blog post that makes us wish we could have had this pack back in March.

The island is roughly the size of Downtown Paradise, but features gameplay unlike any other area in the game.

Our mantra is 'if you can see it, you can drive it' - which means that even the bridge to the city features multiple levels and massive jumps. The construction yard in the foreground is stacked with gameplay and the scaffold at the top features in one of the island's most memorable pieces of gameplay. Everywhere on the island is like this.

Burnout Paradise Toys Collection Now AvailableMarch 05th, 2009 at 8:45 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Criterion is really cranking out the DLC now, as the Burnout Paradise Toys packs has been released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC for the 8 player co-op racer.  What, you aren't surprised about this pack?  Right...that's because it actually leaked out a few weeks back.

The pack contains eight cars and a motorcyle of the minature variety.  In fact, looking at the screenshots of the cars, they look very similar to Micro Machines.  We've posted pics of them straight ahead.

The Toys Car Pack will set you back $12.99 on the PS3 and PC and 1000 MS points on the Xbox 360.   You can also purchase each car individually.  I think I might need to pick up that 4x4 for our upcoming Co-Op Night!

Burnout Paradise Car Packs Leak, Legendary Pricing ExplainedFebruary 24th, 2009 at 10:30 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Last week when Criterion and Microsoft released the Legendary Car pack on Xbox Live, they accidentally released another pack that's coming for 8 player co-op racer Burnout Paradise.

The first is called the "Toy Cars Pack" - it's set to feature a handful of vehicles small in size but big in performance.  These miniature versions of people's favorite vehicles were available individually and as a full set.

The next pack called the "Time Savers Pack" seems to be more a cheat code, and allows you to "unlock all cars and bikes" but don't have the time to complete the challenges.  Finally the "Boost Specials Collection" is a two car pack that features the Hawker Mech and Carson Extreme Hot Rod.

These packs have since been pulled, so pricing is not currently available.  Speaking of pricing, remember the fiasco that was the Jansen 88 special and the double price for the vehicle?  MTV Multiplayer tried to dig to the bottom of the problem.  The response?

“It’s because it can drive and fly (time travel is free :)),” said an Electronic Arts spokesperson in an e-mail last week.

Hmm.  Seems like a weak excuse to me.  With all the new cars available, Criterion sure is doing a good job keeping the life of this game going despite any pricing snafus.

Burnout Cars Now Available - Watch them in Trailer FormFebruary 19th, 2009 at 8:38 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

The day has finally come, the day when all of your favorite 1980's cars can live together in happy harmony in Paradise City.  To celebrate Criterion has released trailers for each car, before dropping your hard earned cash.

Here are links to queue up your downloads:

It'd be extra sweet if Criterion added additional co-op challenges just for these vehicles. 88MPH in the Jansen while jumping over it with the Calvary Bootlegger!

We've posted the full set of trailers below.

Legendary Car Pack Pricing is Legendary in Burnout ParadiseFebruary 17th, 2009 at 9:51 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

It's actually not floating, all the money is holding it up.

You ALMOST had us Criterion.  You added totally awesome cars are premium DLC to your 8 player co-op title Burnout Paradise.  And what did you go and do?  You priced the best car in the pack double that of the others.  That's right, you'll be dropping $4 on your mock-DeLorean car in Burnout.  I'd honestly be willing to pay it if these were actual license vehicles, instead of knock off cars.

The rest of the cars; Hunter Manhattan Spirit (Ghostbusters), Hunter Cavalry Bootlegger (GeneralLee), Carson GT Nighthawk (Kitt) are all priced at $1.99 each.  Thankfully you can get the whole pack of cars for a discounted $7.99.

I'm also curious how this will work in co-op.  Will you only be able to use your high price ride with other players who own the same content?

So what do the Co-Optination think?  Worth the price of a map pack to relive our child hood youth for a few hours in Paradise City?

Burnout Paradise Legendary Cars Coming Thursday, Cops and Robbers Pack TeasedFebruary 16th, 2009 at 11:47 AM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

Despite a minor disappointment that can probably be attributed to the same guy that designed the Diablo III Care Bears t-shirt, Criterion Games continues to amaze us with their support of Burnout Paradise. The game is officially a year old, and they are still pounding out some great content for this 8-player co-op title.

Via Criterion's Twitter account comes the confirmation that the Legendary Cars pack will be available for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 this Thursday - February 19th.

Also, the Playstation 3 and PC in-game news page has seen the announcement of Cops and Robbers, a new pack that will pit players against each other in a mode that was undoubtedly inspired by the classic Need for Speed titles. No word yet if this mode will reach the Xbox 360 version, but coming from an Xbox user: it would be a crime worth chasing for if it didn't. Yuk, yuk.

Note to Criterion from Jim: I am loving your continued support...please add splitscreen soon! Erm...ahem.
