Can you believe Halo Reach launches in less than 2 weeks? Neither can we. While the launch of the game means our previous favorites Halos will probably get played a whole lot less, we figured the best way to celebrate is to go out playing Firefight! Read on to join up this months for Waypoint Night

We've had a few months away from our normal monthly Halo Waypoint Nights, but they are back! We're only two months away from Halo Reach and that means we have plenty of co-op goodness to get done in Halo 3 and ODST before the big launch. So what's on tap first? Firefight!

A little over a week and a half ago, Co-Optimus and Bungie had another one of our Halo Waypoint Co-Op nights. The focus of this particular event was to collect the skulls and audio logs from Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, respectively. Having not yet gathered all of the audio logs in my single player game, I figured that this was the perfect time to do so, and I was not alone. Nick and community member Bakken Hood were also pursuing these back-story fragments that were scattered all about New Mombasa, and were prepared with a map that showed the locations of all the audio logs. We were unprepared, however, for what awaited us at the end of our search.

The Halo Reach multiplayer beta kicks up next Monday, and the only way to get access is to own and copy of Halo 3: ODST. You'd think by now that most Halo fans would own a copy of ODST, which was released last Fall, but according to Microsoft - that's simply not the case.
"Naturally, the demand for Halo 3: ODST will be reinvigorated as soon as the public Beta kicks off," director of Xbox and Entertainment at Microsoft Stephen McGill told CVG.
While it's unlikely that "tons" will sale, which the rep further went on to say, those that skipped the title have another reason to pick it up now - it's dropped in price under $30.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is a first: a competition ladder group has made good use of Halo 3: ODST's stat tracking and begun coordinating global challenges for the Firefight co-op survival mode. We love Firefight, but thanks to its painful lack of co-op matchmaking we've had to resort to our Waypoint Co-Op Nights and Co-Optimus matchmaking tools in order to secure a full four-man squad. Websites like HaloCharts.com are not only innovative...but useful in this regard.
The current challenge is called Chaos Den. In order to pass, you have a laundry list of accomplishments that need to be fulfilled, either alone or in co-op. Among them are items like "10 Sniper Kills", "10 Beatdowns", "5 Spiker Kills", and even bonuses like "5 Plasma Pistol Kills". Everything is reviewed and qualified afterward by staff members. It seems like a solid way to expand the community-driven capabilities that Halo's detailed stat tracking is designed for.

Your access to Halo 2's online multiplayer may be ending on Thursday, but Friday we're firing up Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST for a co-op night unlike any others. We'll be joining the Waypoint crew to help everyone get those long lost collectible items like Skulls in Halo 3 and Audio Logs in ODST.

We've previously covered, through various post-mortems and look-back interviews, how Bungie had considered Matchmaking for Halo 3: ODST, but how it was ultimately shot down due to the time and effort that would have been involved with such an undertaking. Well last Friday OXM UK heard from Bungie's community boss, Brian Jarrard, that Bungie's biggest regret was "not being able to go back and make Firefight in ODST work and have match-making."

Between learning more about Halo: Reach and still playing Firefight mode with our friends in Halo 3: ODST, we've got a bit of Halo on the brain. GameInformer.com is in the same boat, and have taken a look back on the development of ODST after the fact to supplement their desire for Halo. We take a look at the inclusion of Firefight mode and the history with the team behind the magic of ODST from the GI interview of ODST creative director Joseph Staten.

When disaster strikes, a lot of us feel like we should help but aren't sure how. After the earthquake that has devastated Haiti, Bungie has stepped up to let you and your friends be heroes simply by gaming. Join up with others in Halo 3 or Halo 3: ODST in one of the largest co-op gaming efforts we've seen. Play Firefight, versus, or any other online Halo 3 or ODST custom or matchmaking game online.
All you have to do is show up online for Halo 3 or ODST on Wednesday, January 20 starting at 00:01am PST to Thursday, January 21 at 23:59pm PST wearing the Hearts emblem on your Spartan or ODST with as many of your friends as you can. Here is Bungies Promise to gamers for participating:
"For every thousand heroes that participate, we will make a $100 donation on behalf of Bungie and our fan community to the Red Cross for Haiti relief efforts, up to a maximum of $77,000."
