Codemasters has made good on their promise, and officially announced the first content pack for Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising.   The pack is called the Skirmish pack and features two new cooperative missions for four players as well as four new maps for competitive play.  There's also a new sandbox mode called Island Tour which can be played cooperatively.

The new co-op maps are called All Round Defence, which looks to be a survival mode type map with support and attack helicopters as players defend a fortified complex against waves of PLA; and Uphill Struggle has players trying to capture a bunker under heavy fire from hillside reinforcements.

Operation Flashpoint 2 DLC and Title Updates PlannedOctober 16th, 2009 at 12:27 PM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

In our review of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising this week, we made mention of some glitches and the lack of weapon customization, and also the scarcity of multiplayer maps (only two maps per each of two modes). Codemasters is working on all of these bullet points already, citing title updates and planned downloadable content.

We’ve got some very ambitious plans with DLC – our first pack is coming up in a matter of weeks. We’ll also have title updates coming up because once the game’s out there, we’ll need to get feedback from the people who are playing it, and if need be make a few adjustments and tweaks.

This was from Sion Lenton, executive producer at Codemasters, during an interview with the Telegraph. According to him, weapons or maps -- or both -- are coming down the pipe in a matter of weeks.

Operation Flashpoint 2 Goes Gold, New Screens and Trailers to Excite YouSeptember 24th, 2009 at 10:33 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Codemasters has announced that Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising has gone gold and will hit retailers on October 6th.   With Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions, everyone will get their chance to jump in on the four player co-op action.

Along with that announcement comes brand new screenshots and two new trailers.  The first trailer talks a bit about the effects system in the game for things like fire and smoke, but there is a bit in there that talks about how players can communicate in co-op using different colored smoke.  That in itself seems pretty unique.

The second trailer shows off a mission called Eagle.  It's action packed and fill with music that would do well in a Michael Bay film.

Operation Flashpoint 2 Co-Op Trailer and InfoSeptember 02nd, 2009 at 8:03 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

With a month to go till the game's release, it looks like we are finally getting some solid gameplay footage of Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising's co-op mode.  The four player online co-op mode looks like a solid addition to the tactical shooter lineup like that of Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.

The trailer shows off a few different environments, as well as solid team work in different situations.  Covering movement, suppressing enemies, and even spotting tanks for assisted targeting are all on display.  It all looks very compelling, and very beautiful.

Rumor: Comp Stomping Comes to Operation Flashpoint: Dragon RisingAugust 31st, 2009 at 1:08 PM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

There's a lot of buzz coming out of the community following the latest batch of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising videos from CodeMasters. Mixed feelings are flying everywhere, thanks to an unconfirmed statement that console multiplayer would be limited to 8 players (4 vs 4). It's important to note that the game's profile on Xbox.com still indicates that the Xbox 360 version will support up to 16 players online.

Normally, we wouldn't post something like that on our front page; but we've found among the rubble that in order to help populate the multiplayer games and to provide a more tactical feel at the same time, CodeMasters is engineering multiplayer to include bots.
