This one time, at band camp, I shoved a flute...in front of my Rock Band mic and beat "Avenged" by Sevenfold on Expert. And so this spunky young lady has done just that, by playing her flute into the standard Rock Band microphone with the correct pitch and notes she was able to score a 98% on expert.
It's quite impressive...and quite lovely. I wonder if this works for Guitar Hero 5? You could get a group of four completely unique instruments together to play four vocal tracks at the same time in the game's co-op mode. My vote? Xylophone, Ukulele, Jew's Harp, and Bongos.

The Rock Band iPhone app has been released, and is priced at $10. That may seem a bit steep for a iPhone app, but since the game includes twenty songs, that's actually a decent deal for the music alone.
Four player co-op is supported via Bluetooth. The game is controlled by tapping the screen, which I'm sure feels more like drumming than strummng. Oddly enough, even singing is controlled the same way. That could be good or bad, depending on the quality of your co-op partner's voice. Song packs are also available, coming at the price of two songs for a buck.

Music games are great fun, so it's only natural that folks want to play them on the go. Previous efforts haven't exactly been strong in the co-op aspect, either implementing it poorly (Guitar Hero: On Tour) or eliminating it entirely (Rock Band Unplugged). That trend looks to change with Rock Band for iPhone and iPod Touch.
Using the bluetooth capabilities of the iPhone, up to four players can rock out together, on drums, guitar, bass, or vocals. Twenty songs will be included with the app, which is scheduled to be released sometime this month. More songs, naturally, will be available for download in-game. If I had an iPhone, I'd be all over this app. (Curse you lousy AT&T coverage in my area!)

If you don't feel like dropping 180 large on the swanky new Rock Band 2 instruments and bundle, perhaps a $99 (Wii, PS2) or $119 (360, PS3) price tag suits you better? Online retailer Amazon.com has dropped the prices on these bundles which includes the Guitar, Microphone, Drums and a copy of Rock Band 1; which of course is fully importable into your Rock Band 2 experience on the 360 and PS3.
All told you could have Rock Band 1, all the instruments and Rock Band 2 for less than the full price of the Rock Band 2 bundle. Score!

If you are like me, one of the things you were most excited about was when Harmonix announced Nevermind from Nirvana as a full downloadable ablum on Rock Band. There's just one problem, Harmonix never said such a thing.
In a day and age where news is reported in split second blog posts, a lot of times things get taken out of context. Rock Band 2 was on display at a certain social gathering tonight, and Harmonix Community Manager Sean Baptiste was there. According to Baptiste, they never specifically announced Nevermind would be available, it was simply given as an example of classic albums that could appear on the service. According to him a press release or any other official material was never put out. But fret not, he said just because it was never officially confirmed doesn't mean it can't happen. So it looks like you and four of your buddies won't be jamming out to the best Nirvana song ever (that's Drain You in case you didn't know) - but there's still hope.

Rock Band might very well be the best co-op game available today. There, I said it. I wanted to avoid all possible hyperbole, but the fact is that my previous statement could be true. As I discovered this week, Rock Band has some serious co-op chops.
The central thing that makes video games fun is the fact that they enable you to do things that you couldn't do in real life. I will (likely) never race a BMW M3, or fight off the Covenant. However, thanks to video games, I can at least simulate that experience. However, the great thing about Rock Band is that it (and music games like it) bridges the gap between the video games and real-life. You aren't just hitting a button to make music appear, you are actually playing a (rough) analogue of an instrument. That is what makes music games (and Rock Band in particular) so brilliant. I know that Rock Band is not the only game of its kind, but it was the first game to emulate a...well, a rock band. But something else about the game made it stand out. Let me preface my remarks.
Did you know Amazon has an entire Rock Band Store? Yeah, neither did I. While casually browsing the store this morning little Billy Robot noticed that the game is on sale for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The game is discounted down to $148, almost $25 off the normal price.
If you don't need the entire game, perhaps you are just looking for a spare set of drums? Good news! The drums are also on sale.
Of course it wouldn't be news if it didn't have co-op, and Rock Band is king of that, with a 4 player co-op band mode!
And while the Amazon Rock Band Store isn't as sexy as The Official One, becoming a Rock Band owner via it will let you feast your eyes on the official one's face melting goodness.
Several bits of news have come up as of late regarding the world's loudest co-op game, Rock Band. Joystick reports that a jaw dropping six million songs have been downloaded since the game's release. 6,000,000. To put things into perspective, that is like an album going platinum, 6 times over. By anyone's measure, Rock Band DLC is a success. It's no surprise then, that the wait for the long-promised release of entire albums may be shorter than you think. A patch for Rock Band will be available soon, and one of the (long overdue) main features of the patch is an in-game Music Store. Albums are listed under new releases as "coming soon". Hopefully we can all be playing Who's Next and Nevermind by summer. Additional features of the Music Store are previews for each song and the ability to sort through available music as you like. This will make finding just the right song to download that much easier for you, and that much harder on your wallet.
