BattleForge Gets an Expansion Complete with Lost Souls and Twilight Factions

12:16 AM on 2/16/2010 by

BattleForge, EA Phenomic's card-trading-meets-RTS game, has received another expansion entitled the Lost Souls Edition. As you might recall, BattleForge is a free-to-play game where you can purchase BattleForge points for real money which you can then use to buy booster packs in-game or use to trade with other players for specific cards via an auction system. The Lost Souls Edition introduces 120 new cards, 28 of which are from the Twilight and Lost Souls factions (14 of each), previously only seen as enemies in the game.

Battleforge is the First DirectX 11 Game

8:24 AM on 10/7/2009 by

The above screen is the first shot from EA's Battleforge that shows off the game's DirectX 11 support.  The game's developer and EA have announced that Battleforge is the first game to feature DX11 support, though you'll still need a DX11 card to take advantage of that.  Currently only Radeon 5870 and 5850 cards support it.

Remember that Battleforge is a game that's free to play, so if and when you do get that shiny new DirectX11 card, you can show it off without even purchasing a new game.  And if you do make the investment, consider picking on up for a friend, it's the co-op thing to do.  Everyone needs a little high definition ambient occlusion in their life.

Battleforge Renegade Expansion Revealed

9:15 AM on 7/20/2009 by

Battleforge is getting its first official expansion pack called the Renegade Expansion.  The new expansion adds two new races, the Bandits and Stonekin - as well as a new dual orb feature.

Dual Orb units are able to utilize the powers of two different kind of orbs at once, which unlock new special abilities.  There's no details on what other things we can expect in the 120 card expansion pack - but we hope we'll see some new cooperative missions.  Afterall, we really enjoyed the original game and its co-op.

There's no word on pricing as of yet, but with Battleforge costing nothing to play now - we imagine this will cost something above that.

Battleforge Price Point Discussed

1:55 PM on 6/15/2009 by

Battleforge has had quite the wild ride in it's two months of existence.  The game launched back in April to great reviews, but users and reviewers complained about the initial costs combined with the costs of booster packs.  EA responded shortly after dropping the price, and then more recently cutting the price all together.

In a recent interview with Kotaku, EA CEO John Riccitiello commented on the status of how the newly priced game is working out.

Battleforge is Now Free To Play

8:49 AM on 5/26/2009 by

A few weeks ago the co-op RTS from EA, BattleForge, dropped in price.  For $30 you got the full game, 3000 in game points and 64 cards to start with.  The price and content of this hasn't changed, but there's a new option now.

Electronic Arts has announced that BattleForge has gone Play 4 Free.  What this means is players can download the full version of Battle Forge at no cost.  The Play 4 Free version of the game only comes with 32 cards though, and while that's enough to get you up and running you'll most likely want to purchase more.

Battleforge Drops in Price

9:46 PM on 5/5/2009 by

Electronic Arts has announced that their co-op RTS, Battleforge, has dropped in price from $49.99 to $29.99.  This isn't a temporary sale, nope, this my friends is a permanent price drop.

This is excellent news for co-op fans as we found the game rather entertaining, with really the only sticking point being the price of booster packs.  Even if you are unsure as to whether or not you want to dive into the world of magical cards and co-op RTS's, you can check out the free demo on www.battleforge.com.  If you like it, you can unlock it right away for the new low price.

Enjoy the new trailer for the game featuring some truly epic drums.

Battleforge Demo Now Available, Upgradable to Retail Release

10:31 PM on 3/23/2009 by

EA has announced that a demo version of their card-based RTS, Battleforge, is now available for download.  If you read our preview of the game, you know we came away more than impressed, so now is the perfect time to see if it fits into your co-op gaming regiment as well.

Battleforge features co-op missions for a variety of player numbers, with later missions featuring a full twelve player co-op.  As you progress through the story, players are able to play specific elemental cards to summon troops and spells into battle.

If you like the demo version enough, you can simply enter a retail unlock code and instantly have the full version at your finger tips.  Beta users will be receiving a unique Firedancer card upon launch later this week.

Hit up the official Battleforge website to download the demo.
