Co-Op gamers should be familiar with Mr Albert Wesker as he was the main villain in Resident Evil 5. After conquering him in the game you could unlock him as a playable character in Mercenaries mode, and for us, he was a favorite.
So there's good news for those of you looking forward to Lost Planet 2 and its four player co-op mode - Wesker is an exclusive pre-order bonus to Gamestop. Well it's good news if you like Gamestop, and thankfully it's only a skin. That's ok right? Not exactly.

The subtitle for the original Lost Planet was "Extreme Condition". For the sequel, perhaps "Extreme Customization" might be more appropriate. Some really interesting details about Lost Planet 2's character customization have been revealed at the Capcom-Unity Blog. All sorts of different options are available for your soldier, including weapons, abilties, and, coolest of all, nicknames.
You can choose a preference to which weapons you'll find in game. Like the shotgun? Set the flag, and when you find a short range weapon on the ground, it'll be a shotgun. Maybe your co-op buddy likes flamethrowers; when he picks up a short range weapon, it'll be a flamethrower. That's an excellent idea, and one I wish was available in more games.

PlayStation 3 owners should be getting their hands on the new Lost Planet 2 Co-Op demo any minute now. The rest of us? We'll have to settle for these brand new screenshots and trailer straight from the Tokyo Game Show.
The screens and trailer are by far the most impressive we've seen from the game. The graphics look top notch, and the scale of the game looks huge. And lets not forget the co-op based combat.

Notice how the headline doesn't say "the Lost Planet 2 co-op demo"? That's because PlayStation 3 owners are getting an expanded demo on the PlayStation Network tomorrow, September 24th.
According to the PlayStation Blog:
PS3 owners will not only be able to engage in the frantic battle against the enormous G-Type Akrid, the boss Akrid of the episode 1, but will also get the exclusive experience of two additional missions in an online co-operative extermination of the Akrid of E.D.N. III.
In addition to the demo, an exclusive trailer will debut on the PSN, which promises to show off a new desert environment and "even bigger Akrid than seen before".

PlayStation Blog's resident grunge Chris Morell spoke with Capcom's Chris Kramer about the PlayStation 3 version of Lost Planet 2 in an exclusive GamesCom interview; Capcom is adamant in making sure you understand that this release will be at the extreme opposite end of the spectrum from the lackluster Lost Planet PlayStation 3 release last year.
During the interview -- which we've embedded for you -- Lost Planet 2 plays in the background. Breathe another sigh of relief...it appears that Capcom is treating both versions with equal care.
Not a couch, but close enough.
Undoubtedly the most asked for feature on our site when a game is announced is "couch co-op." Couch Co-Op or split screen co-op allows two or more players to play in the same room on the same console with one copy of the game. It used to be the only way to play a co-op game until online modes came around, but thankfully it's not a complete lost art.
The good news is Lost Planet 2, which features four player online co-op, could see a two player couch co-op mode before release next year. The game's producer, Jun Takeuchi, had this to say:

That's not the right giant monster, but it'll do.
The Lost Planet 2 demo went up yesterday, and most of the Co-Optimus staff rushed home to play it as soon as possible. Our impressions of the demo range from giddiness (me) to grumpiness (Mike) and everything in between. We're interested to know: what are your thoughts on the demo? Did it sell you a copy of the game? Or save you $60?

A friendly reminder that the four player co-op demo for Lost Planet 2 is now available to download to your Xbox 360 console. The demo is playable over Xbox Live and features a mission from the campaign and a gigantic boss battle.
After watching the new GamesCom trailer for LostPlanet 2 - I can't get home fast enough to try the demo. Don't believe me? Watch for yourself and be the judge.

Mmmmm, sno-cones. NOM NOM NOM
Starting August 19th, which is the first day of GamesCom in Germany, Xbox Live Gold members will be able to snag the Lost Planet 2 demo on Xbox Live. The demo is the same one that's been on display at E3 and Comic-Con.
You and your squad of teammates will be facing off against a giant Salamander boss in the four player online co-op mode. There's multiple ways to kill this ugly mofo, though we highly suggest being swallowed whole and giving it a severe case of explosive indigestion. The demo also promises to show off some of the game's customization features, numerous weapons and even a co-op vehicle or two.
Lost Planet 2 features a four player co-op mode and is currently slated to ship early next year.

Comic Con 2009 had a nice warm welcome for Lost Planet 2 creator Capcom this year. G4 TV sat down with the producer and director of Lost Planet 2 to ask them about what to expect from the co-op experience. Since we have that interview in video form, I'll just mention a few highlights. The Co-op experience for Lost Planet 2 takes a lot into consideration from the development of Resident Evil 5. Only this time, you won't have a cohesive path to follow! Each player can pick up different weapons and take a different approach at defeating enemies, making your co-op experience in Lost Planet 2 feel customizable depending on who you play with!
