Beyond Co-Op Reviews: Mirrors Edge, Dead Space, Farcry 2 and More

360, PS3

EA changed their portfolio this fall to include not only sequels, but brand new ambitious and original IPs.  Dead Space's space survival horror meets action game offers quite a bit to keep players entertained.  The production values of this title are high, and the in game interface is something I hope to see replicated in many titles moving forward.  And while this is a horror title, it keens a bit more towards action.  Sure you'll jump in your seat from time to time, but the moments are a bit predictable.  By the time the story culminates you may be a bit tired of some of the mechanics like shooting apart enemies limbs or constantly hitting up stores to upgrade your player.  This doesn't mean it's not a wild and worthy ride from start to finish, there's just a few asteroids you have to overcome along the way.

Great new feature! I love the simple ratings system; it doesn't interfere with the focus of co-op.

Loren, you and I see eye-to-eye on Far Cry 2. To me, it's a perfect game for when your co-op friends aren't online.

Yeah, I feel Far Cry 2 is going to be really lost in the shuffle, especially in Best of lists because a lot of people haven't played it. Then again, maybe they will be getting it with that hot deal from last week and will be able to see how good it is.

Far Cry 2 was on sale for almost 50% off a few places last week, which is when I picked it up. All told, it cost me about $20, and is an excellent game so far. The only real gripe I have is that there's no checkpoints (on consoles), and I've had to replay an hour of gameplay more than once because I forgot. The animations are top notch and really add to the immersion, though.

Far Cry 2 is a fantastic game, but ultimately it wasn't for me. At first, exploring the world was really fun, but after a couple missions it got to be a real chore.

Maybe I'll get back to it in the future.

Meh...I was hoping for a more in-depth review. But it's short and sweet.

A welcomed addition!

Out of the short reviews here, there are longer versions of Mirror's Edge, Quantum of Solace, Pure, Far Cry 2 and MK vs. DC over at Colony of Gamers all done by me.

Here's a general link to the Features forum that all the reviews at CoG sit in and you can read from there http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums ... ay.php?f=6

I originally intended to pick up Far Cry 2 during the blitz of online sales last weekend, but got swayed by other games. At one point I realized my Amazon cart was well over $300 and had to purge a lot of it (all games too, no hardware).

I'm going to be picking a lot of these up after the holidays anyway, after a price drop. I think Mirror's Edge might be the only one I get before Christmas.

Dang, I had planned on linking to the in depth version of these but it totally slipped my mind.

No way. Tut of co-op? out of the site focus?

I don't like it. Sorry. I came to the site only for the co-op features/reviews/info. Not the others games.
