It's been a long time since I have played a platformer that has entertained me as much as Trine. In fact, I'll go ahead and say this up front: If you for some unfathomable reason do not fall completely head over heels in love with this game within the first ten minutes, there might be something wrong with your brain. I'd go get that checked out. For purposes of keeping the game as fresh as possible, I will try to avoid spitting out too many examples of how to solve puzzles.

Hello friends, it's your old pal Mike! Since I hadn't had a chance to co-op recently, and Xbox Live was down last night (and I don't have a headset for PSN), I'm here to regale you with a tale of a feature that Jason and myself tried to get off the ground, but ultimately couldn't make work. It didn't have a name, but it did culminate in one of my favorite "co-op" (take note of those quotes) moments in recent memory.

We all love zombies. Alright, some of us don't love them, but the desire to mow down zombie hordes is nigh universal. With last year's Left 4 Dead, the zombie co-op survival genre was born, and was quickly reinforced by Call of Duty: World at War's Nazi Zombies mode. Killing Floor, from Tripwire Interactive, liberally borrows elements from both of these games and a few others to create a wonderful co-op experience that feels instantly familiar, but becomes unique almost from the moment you take control. With co-op for up to six players being the game's entire focus (its subtitle is "Co-Op Survival Horror", after all), genre (and co-op) fans are in for a real treat.

Things are going to work a little differently with this edition of This Week in Co-Op. Every now and then, I get writer's block, and I just can't seem to get everything typed out.
Hit the jump for an experiment of sorts.

The original Painkiller is one of my favorite over-the-top, mindless shooters- right up there with the Dooms, Duke Nukem 3Ds and Serious Sams of the world. So, when IGN UK received word that a new chapter in the series, Painkiller: Resurrection, is being developed for PC (with a later release on 360) and a fourth quarter release this year, my heart went aflutter. What's more, the lovely developers at Homegrown Games have decided to include cooperative play! To wit:
"Perhaps the best thing about multiplayer, however, is that the game will, for the first time in the series' history, feature an entirely cooperative campaign. Players will now be able to fight their way through Purgatory with a friend by their side."
Apparently, the game begins with the main character accidentally blowing up a schoolbus. For more screens and information, check out the IGN UK article linked below.

The Lord of the Rings movies may be a few years old, but that didn't stop EA and Pandemic from releasing a brand new game based on Peter Jackson's epic pictures. What happens when you combine Star Wars Battlefront with the fantasy universe of Tolkien and add a splash of co-op? One co-op to rule them all? Find out in our review.

The other day, we posted a news story where we reported that Lord of the Rings: Conquest only had one Co-Op achievement. Sad news, to be sure! Luckily, our good friends at Pandemic sent along the official, complete list of both Achievements and Trophies, along with the clarification that any and all achievements related to the campaign are able to be earned in cooperative play by both players!
While there is indeed only a lone Co-Op specific achievement, a whopping 36 achievements out of the 48 can be earned in co-op.
Hit the jump for a full list! (And be warned, some of the achievement titles may count as spoilers!)

Last week, we and several other representatives from community sites were invited out to Pandemic Studios in Los Angeles to attend a Community event for Lord of the Rings: Conquest.

Japanese gaming mag Dengeki Playstation recently revealed that Level-5's upcoming PS3 RPG will be featuring a four-player online co-op mode! Players can connect to a central lobby and form groups of four adventurers to take on quests.
While we have no word on whether or not the online component will be tied to the single player content at all, the recent wave of Phantasy Star Online-like co-op modes in Japanese action RPGs (Monster Hunter/Phantasy Star Portable & Zero, et al) is reassuring.
