After going hands-on with Hacktag at PAX East, I'm looking forward to trying my hand at the game again (hopefully with less failure on my part this time). Not only is the game's difficulty quite challenging, but it requires a lot of coordination and communication between the two players.

Assault Heroes 2 Is Now Backwards Compatible On Xbox OneEnoch Starnes

To be honest with you, the setup's not extremely important here.  The world's presumably in trouble, and you and your co-op partner are called upon to save it once again.  By saving it, I of course mean swiveling those joysticks until every onscreen enemy has been reduced to pixelated dust.

I bought into the closed beta so I could check it out over the weekend. Coming from the PC version, it's rather interesting to see what's different. The game as a whole feels more streamlined, which I suppose is to be expected as Gaz is focusing on the "core" elements of the title for now. I've yet to level a character to 60 to see what the end game content is like, but with only one patrol zone and no weekly in-game events yet, I don't expect there to be very much for now. There are a lot of little changes from the PC to console, such as changing up hero synergies and the bonuses certain gear grants you, but none of that is necessarily a bad thing. In fact, some changes, such as the in-game currencies being reduced to just three (one for buying heroes, one for buying items from vendors, and one that only becomes available at 60 for buying special items), means that the title is easier to approach for newcomers.

Troll and I is a platforming and puzzle solving game for up to two players, but at times, leaves one player to do nothing but wait for the other to progress. As the game carries on, elements from other more popular games can be seen, leaving Troll and I feeling like a soulless chore....

Contra is a classic title, but harks back to the vintage days when you could only afford one game every few months, so make what you have hard and timeconsuming.  The two player couch and online co-op title still holds up well today, but is perhaps not as strong as its Super Nintendo sequel Super Contra.

If you're familiar with some of Grasshopper's (and Suda 51's) past games, then you know they have some interesting takes on familiar video game formulas while also weaving a different kind of story. Sine Mora is no exception to that as the main narrative revolves around two different tales occurring at two different points in time, but they're linked in a rather interesting way. From a gameplay perspective, rather than the player's ship having a health bar or dying in one hit, each time you take fire from an enemy, you lose time. Like I said, there's a lot of interesting stuff going on here. The good news is that you can team up with a buddy locally to play through the entire story.

Confusingly the game is named the same as the 2005 game as well. Also confusingly, the game's split-screen co-op mode is only available on consoles. There are no details if the mode will play out like 2015's Battlefront, or something new entirely.

The Daily Tasks are available via The Emissary in the Pit, which is accessible after completing the game's prologue/tutorial. There's a Daily Task for each of the game modes, PvP and the more co-op friendly Unfair Challenge, that are available within the Pit. If you're unfamiliar with the game, the Unfair Challenge consists of three rounds versus three different sets of enemies, with each round getting more difficult than the last. Sounds like a good way for you and your partner to test your skills!

7 Days to Die is a PC game. It feels, even on consoles, that it is designed and meant to be played on the PC. The game feels ripe for mods, creativity, and community-based enhancements, but none of that applies to the weak console port....

LEGO City: Undercover looks to recreate that feeling, albeit with proper vehicles.  The folks over at PlayStation just posted a video teasing all the different ways you can traverse the blocky cityscape, which you can see below:

Obviously, the solution is to add Army of Two to the backwards compatibility list, and Microsoft's done just that, with the game being available at this very moment for your co-op third person shooter needs.  As usual, the game is available to download for free if you owned it digitally on Xbox 360, but otherwise, you can pick it up for fifteen bucks.

Ok, now that I've time warped back from 1992, hello. Yes, games development in the year 2017 has reached the point where developers are actually going so retro that they are making new games exclusively for old consoles. WaterMelon Games has finally revealed their latest title Paprium in a trailer that may be one of the best things I've watched all year. The game is a classic side-scrolling beat-em-up that supports two player local co-op, but there's a catch. You can only get Paprium for the Sega Genesis/Master Drive systems.
