The newest video on the Rise and Fall expansion can be found below as well as on Firaxis’ official YouTube channel. Unfortunately, while both trade and the new emergencies (3:20)  are mentioned to be tied to Co-Op, details on how they actually work in-game are still scarce and never answered in the video. Thankfully the video also shows new leaders (4:12) and a breakdown of the new Ages features (0:20) so we are given some new information.

Return Once More to Old Tristram in Diablo 3Jason Love

Starting around 7:00 PM EST tonight on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions of Diablo 3, you'll be able to enter the portal that will take you back to the pixelated days of Diablo. Battle you way through 16 floors of the original Tristram cathedral, fight the Butcher, and bring down Diablo. If you do all that using a new, level one character, then you'll be able to get some sweet loot in the form of a Butcher pet. Of course, if you participated in the event last year, there may not be quite as many new things this time around, but it does look like there might be a different banner reward and transmogrification recipes.

As 2017 (thankfully) draws to a close, we wanted to take a look at how Destiny 2 stands after some needed updates and the release of the first expansion. Games like these are ever-changing and shifting, but we wanted to put together our thoughts on it and try to answer the usual question that gets tossed about with this: “is it worth it?&rdqu...

I brought this up a couple times during the stream (a recap of which can be found below), but Distrust isn't like many of the survival games to which you're accustomed (such as Don't Starve or ARK). The title feels like it has more in common with board games, such as Dead of Winter or Mansions of Madness, as your primary goal is to scavenge an area for supplies and keep pushing forward, rather than gathering things to build other things. It relies heavily upon the push/pull mechanics of moving forward, and feeling like you have enough stuff to keep your three status bars (Warmth, Stamina [tiredness], and Satiety [hunger]) from dropping so low that you begin to lose health and suffer from a variety of mental affects. Those mental affects impact what you see and hear, leading to situations where you can't be sure if that food you picked up is spoiled or not, or if something in the environment actually needs to be repaired/fixed (which will waste supplies you need).

The Dawning event starts today, December 19 at 12:00 pm EST and comes to an end at roughly the same time on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. It's open to all players regardless if you own the recent "Curse of Osiris" expansion or not. There will be a special weekly milestone added to the list of activities during this time, and completing that milestone will reward you with a special Dawning Engram that can be redeemed at Tess Everis' shop for some Dawning-themed gear. In addition to the gear, the "Mayhem" variant returns to the PvP-centered Crucible, and players will find piles of snow in Strikes that let you hurl snowballs at foes and stun them.

The new content may be the equivalent of, say, "The Taken King" for the original Destiny, but what's added is good and needed. As Bungie said in their blog post last week, there are those folks that want to be able to hop into the game as they please and find something fun to do. The "Infinite Forest" may play into this by introducing "Heroic Adventures," which are tougher variants of the three Adventures that become available after completing the story. These variants include adding modifiers, like "Prism" that rotates through the different elements (Sol, Arc, Void) and increases the damage of whichever is selected and decreases the damage of the others. While the Adventures end in a section that is either the past, present, or future of Mercury, the path to get there is slightly randomized and constructed from pre-fab building blocks. It's something Bungie calls "intelligent assembly" (instead of the familiar "procedurally generated"). As this is the first week of its release, it's tough to say whether or not these Adventures will be rotated out every week, but it would offer a new/fun endgame activity for folks if they do.

The title supports three player online or three player LAN co-op throughout the campaign, and in the Multiplayer mode where you can team up against A.I. opponents (i.e., "comp stomping"). What's interesting about the co-op here is that you can actually specify what your buddies can and can't do. For instance, maybe one of your friends wants to just focus on the resource management/base-building aspects of the game. Perhaps your other friend just wants to control the heroes and army units. SpellForce 3 lets you do just that. In some ways, this division of duties helps with some of the confusion that could arise otherwise as there aren't a lot of indications when another player has selected a particular unit or building.

If you've already picked up the DLC, either by buying it directly or via the Season Pass, then you can start pre-loading that content now. Fair warning for console users, you may need to free up some space. The DLC requires 88 Gb of space on the PlayStation 4, and 44 Gb of space on the Xbox One. That new planet and new guns need room, man!

In Rise and Fall, alliances will offer allied players more choice as well as tangible benefits. In the expansion, players will choose whether it is a Research, Military, Economic, Cultural, or Religious alliance when an alliance is created. Each type has its own set of unique perks with these perks being powerful enough that players can only have one alliance of each type at a time; however, allied players can agree to change the type of their shared alliance after it has been made.

Of course, it could also be the case that there's something more to all this with Sony's PlayStation Experience event on the horizon; speculation certainly is abound that some "remastered" version is in the works. While it could be cool to play through a version of the game that's been brought into the modern era, I also feel like it's been good for the Souls series as a whole to move forward with each title.
