Next-Gen Boom Blox SlipOctober 27th, 2009 at 4:42 PM by Katrina "ShadokatRegn" Pawlowski

A recent job listing at EA Games briefly mentions a next-gen Boom Blox, which we happily file under the "rumor slip-ups" list. EA's job listing, direct from the official Boom Blox team asking for an additional programmer, says;

"Our last two titles were Wii-based, but our next titles will be for the next generation."

Co-Op Casual Friday: Boom BloxAugust 29th, 2009 at 1:20 AM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

There are two requirements that qualify a game for this column.  As long as the game meets just one of the criteria, I'll use it.  The first is appeal to a younger audience.  Movie and television tie-ins meet this requirement, but there are certainly many other kid-friendly games too.  Second, any game that appeals to the more casual crowd, or even non-gamers, can be covered.  The game we have under consideration today fulfills both of these criteria, and does so admirably.  Boom Blox is appealing to children, and great use of the Wii remote means non-gamers will love it too.

Co-Op Release Alert: Boom Blox Bash PartyMay 19th, 2009 at 11:47 AM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

Boom Blox Bash Party is coming your way today.  The sequel to last year's creative puzzle waggler will include a greater focus on multiplayer.  That's a nice addtion for fans of co-op!  Exclusive to the Wii, the game is value priced, retailing for a reasonable $40.  Remember that you can get the game at Amazon and support Co-Optimus at the same time.  It's even on sale, for 10% off.  Let the bashing begin!

Boom Blox Bash Party Site Live, Preorders Cheap!May 06th, 2009 at 10:56 AM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

Last year, Boom Blox hit the Wii, and, according to Co-Optimus' own artist-bot, Mike, it's one of the best experiences for waggly console.  Props to Steven Spielberg for the big improvement over his previous game featuring blocky characters, E.T.

In just a couple weeks, the sequel, Boom Blox Bash Party, will be released.  As you'd expect from the title, Bash Party has a larger emphasis on the multiplayer aspects, including co-op!  EA has just launched the official site for the game, and all sorts of screenshots and gameplay footage are available there.  There's even a video specifically for co-op, instructing players to "Team up and destroy!  Work together to complete levels and achieve gold!"

The game is up for preorder at Amazon, for a 10% discount off the already reasonable $40.  That's just a few bucks more than the original, which hasn't come down in price much, at all.  Perhaps I'll break my string of music games for this one...

Boom Blox Bash Party Breaks Alliteration, But We Have a GalleryMarch 29th, 2009 at 8:29 AM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

Boom Blox Bash Blowout.  Boom Blox Bash Brouhaha.  Either of these titles would have kept the initial consonant sounds repeating.  But no, EA and Steven Spielberg had to go and break the pattern with "party", a super imaginative word that is totally underused in other Wii titles.  /facepalm

All kidding aside, Boom Blox Bash Party does look like a good time.  As mentioned on the last podcast, the original Boom Blox was a fine game.  Like any good sequel, Bash Party takes all the cool bits from its predecessor and cranks them up a notch or two.  The overall emphasis has shifted more towards multiplayer, with double the multiplayer modes this time around.  That's fine for us, since co-op is included!

We have a gallery and a press release for you after the break.

Boom Blox Sequel Hurling Monkeys in 2009January 31st, 2009 at 12:35 PM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

EA and Steven Spielberg are at it again, fashioning a sequel to the surprisingly fun original Nintendo Wii title Boom Blox. Above is one of the first two screenshots, which enticingly promise exotic new locales.

Boom Blox Bash Party is coming to the the Wii this spring, according to producer Amir Rahimi, and it will feature more competitive and cooperative game modes, at least 400 unique maps on launch, and a user-create-map online sharing system that thankfully doesn't require fiddling with Wii Friend Codes.

Will the Nintendo Wii finally reach the standard of current-gen online networking? Almost certainly not. But so far, the aspirations of Spielberg and EA for the Boom Blox sequel may prove unmatched.
