The truly fantastic enabling game Deadspace Extraction is now available on the Playstation network or as an extra in Deadspace Two Special Editions, and is the best reason to own a Move, says our guest writer. Find out how he conjured a basic human instinct and crated a hardcore gamer from scratch.

If you didn't happen to purchase the collector's edition of Dead Space 2 (or any copy as a forum member points out) last week on the PS3, which included a free copy of Dead Space Extraction, you'll be happy to know that you too can now enjoy the two player co-op light gun shooter without the $80 price tag now that's its out on the PlayStation Network for $15.  

Dead Space Extraction was previously a Wii exclusive title that we really enjoyed, but now thanks to the magic of money and HD, the PlayStation 3 has its very own version with fancy new graphics and PlayStation Move support.  The necromorphs will cower in the corners at your Move's glowing balls of fury as you and your partner slice and dice the limbs as you discover exactly what happened on the Aegis VII colony.

Previously a Nintendo Wii exclusive, Dead Space: Extraction is headed to your PlayStation 3 with Move support. Now you can sever limbs and extremities in upscaled high definition, and you can still do so with a partner. All signs point to this being an exact transfer from the original retail release, but the best part is how you can get your space-gloved hands on it - Dead Space: Extraction will be included on the Dead Space 2 Limited Edition Blu-Ray.

We're still expecting a previously reported release via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, but at this point there is no official word on those ports. The Blu-Ray chop-'em-up, shoot-'em-up combo adventure starts January 25th.

Last year, one of the best titles to hit the Wii came and went without much in the way of sales.  Dead Space Extraction was extremely well reviewed by critics, earning an excellent 4.5 here at Co-Optimus, yet the horrific lightgun shooter failed to move many units.  According to developer Visceral Games, that didn't bother them too much.

All we can do is make the best game we can make. It was great to see from a critical perspective people enjoyed it and that made us very proud. It validated the hard work we had done.

Apparently, the slow sales didn't stop plans for expanding the game to other consoles.  A Move-enabled version of the game will be coming to a Playstaion 3 near you, via PSN and as an inclusion in the PS3 version of Dead Space 2, coming in January.

When you're trying to survive and dispatching horrible nightmarish creatures, the last thing you want to rely on is your own personal reflexes and range of movement. Yet the Nintendo Wii horror shooter Dead Space: Extraction proved that waggle immersion can make for a good entry in the genre.

If you don't have a Wii, EA is still keeping you in the loop with confirmed (previously rumored) PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade ports of Extraction. Furthermore, the PSN version will support the PlayStation Move peripheral with an alternate control scheme. Finally: EA is including Extraction in every PlayStation 3 copy of Dead Space 2. Sounds full of awesome to me. (Did I do that right?)

It seems like the Wii just can't catch a break with some of the gore-riddled games. In response to somewhat disappointing sales, EA will be unleashing the previously Wii exclusive Dead Space: Extraction on the other consoles as a downloadable title. It was previously reported that EA was making this shift, but that rumor was shot down as a just that, "a rumor" according to EA themselves. We're glad to see them rescind that claim to bring the game to a much more accepting and wide-range audience.

It is said that the on-rails shooter will get an HD makeover on its move to the Xbox LIVE Arcade, as well as the Playstation network. We're hoping to see the co-op fully intact, as the gameplay for the Wii was actually excellent according to our co-op review. So, if you're one of those that has been waiting for Dead Space 2, it looks like you'll have some dismembering horror action to tide you over in the mean time.

No word yet on the official price or release date, but we'll be sure to keep you posted as we get more info.

Like a strange alien creature that was once the dinner lady, the latest news about the Dead Space franchise could be described as missing a few limbs.  Rumors are abound that the fun on-rails co-op shooter Dead Space Extraction is being adapted to High Definition for LIVE and PSN.  Despite disappointing sales, we at Co-Optimus think it is a great game and I personally rate it as one of the best games I have played on the Wii. 

Sometimes, we get very disappointed when sales numbers are released.  The latest example is Dead Space Extraction.  Let's take a look at everything this game has going for it.

- Sequel to a well reviewed single player title.

- An adult, "hardcore" game for the Wii amid a sea of shovelware

- Story, atmosphere, and setting are creepy, horrific, and incredibly well done

- Earned a very high 4.5 co-op review and high praise here at Co-Optimus

Dead Space Extraction takes you on a wild and creepy ride in a co-op on rails shooter for the Wii, that's anything but the norm for the system. Deep with Dead Space lore, extraction is violent, bloody, creepy and intense. But is it fun?

Dead Space Extraction, the on rails shooter prequel to Dead Space, is out today for the Nintendo Wii.  It features two player couch co-op throughout the campaign with drop-in and drop-out support, as well as two player co-op in high scoring modes.

Whenever a good game is ported to the Wii, we tend to ignore it simply because the Wii port won't be as powerful nor utilize the Wii's capabilities. Visceral games has taken their passion for co-op gaming, and applied it to the Wii version of Dead Space dubbed "Extraction. Dead Space: Extraction doesn't try to be a clone of Dead Space. Instead, it is a prequel to the series in the on-rails first person, complete with Co-op before the Ishimura ever meets Isaac Clark.

“We know a lot of people out there like playing with their friends, with their family, and so we wanted to support that. But the other reason [for the co-op play] is that we kind of wanted to move away from strict survival-horror rules – which are, you’re alone, you have to really watch your back, [and] conserve ammo all the time – and move more in the direction of action-horror.” – John Calhoun, senior designer of Dead Space: Extraction

Dead Space Extraction for the Wii is two player co-op title being shown on the San Diego Comic-Con show floor.  The folks at Game Videos managed to snag some footage of it in action.  The game looks gorgeous and seems to have a pretty frantic pace to it.  I think this might be one of those must own Wii titles that a lot of folks overlook.

What you see above is a screen grab from the "controls" video for Dead Space Extraction, the two player co-op title coming out for the Wii this September.  What you might not garner from the screen grab is a unique cooperative moment in the game.  

Players are required to alternate solving the puzzle on the right side of the screen, while the other player fends off waves of attackers.  This co-op moment is something not present in the single player game, and when you see it in action, you'll understand how it works.
