Whenever a good game is ported to the Wii, we tend to ignore it simply because the Wii port won't be as powerful nor utilize the Wii's capabilities. Visceral games has taken their passion for co-op gaming, and applied it to the Wii version of Dead Space dubbed "Extraction. Dead Space: Extraction doesn't try to be a clone of Dead Space. Instead, it is a prequel to the series in the on-rails first person, complete with Co-op before the Ishimura ever meets Isaac Clark.

Dead Space Extraction Isn't your Standard Co-Op Light-gun ShooterJuly 04th, 2009 at 8:39 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

What you see above is a screen grab from the "controls" video for Dead Space Extraction, the two player co-op title coming out for the Wii this September.  What you might not garner from the screen grab is a unique cooperative moment in the game.

Players are required to alternate solving the puzzle on the right side of the screen, while the other player fends off waves of attackers.  This co-op moment is something not present in the single player game, and when you see it in action, you'll understand how it works.

Dead Space Originally Had Co-OpJuly 01st, 2009 at 7:59 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Hold still...there's a fly on you.

It's already known that Dead Space Extraction for the Wii will contain a two player cooperative mode.  But what isn't known is the fact that the original Deadspace had a cooperative mode as well, at least, until it was cut like the limbs of the infected.

Glen Schofield, the General Manager for Visceral Games (which was EA Redwood Shores), stated the following on EA Podcast Episode 2:

“We actually had co-op for about three/four months in Dead Space. In the original one, we had it running and we’re playing it and we had a little team developing it and it was actually pretty cool.”

Dead Space Extraction E3 2009 Trailer is Full of Awesome, Full of MogwaiMay 29th, 2009 at 1:03 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Upon pressing play for the new Dead Space Extraction trailer, I was greeted with some gentle guitar riffs.  Right away I knew this trailer was going to be all kinds of awesome.  Why?  Those were no ordinary guitar riffs, oh no, that was the gentle rocking song of Mogwai.

Dead Space Extraction is the two player co-op prequel to last years survival horror game Dead Space.  The game is an on rails shooter for the Wii, playable in classic light gun fashion.  The new E3 2009 trailer gives a bit of the game's back story, and sets the ton for what looks like a wild ride.

New Dead Space Extraction Screenshots are a bit MessyMay 06th, 2009 at 10:45 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

We're gonna need a clean up in isle 7, because someone spilled a bucket of body parts.   Electronic Arts has released a handful of new screens for their upcoming co-op on rails shooter fot the Wii, Dead Space Extraction.

Most of the screens are pretty dark and gory, and really only a few show off co-op.  In the cooperative mode each players has their own on screen cursor to use to blast the limbs off their enemies.  Now about that mop and bucket....

EA Considers Co-Op for Dead Space 2April 29th, 2009 at 12:57 PM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

"I see him! You got my back, buddy?......Hello?......Crud."

Received well by the general gaming population (and earning a Silver Billy in our Beyond Co-Op Review), Dead Space was no slouch of a game. To be brutally honest, another single-player-only affair would afford the series well.

And yet, EA knows that co-op -- when done right -- can open up a whole new way to play.

PSExtreme caught wind of a survey that was going around, asking players what they'd like to see in a new Dead Space title...

Several sources have received a "Tell Us What You Think" e-mail, which consists of a survey that asks questions regarding the impending Dead Space sequel. For example, it asks what type of modes do we enjoy the most, if we're interested in co-op gameplay, and whether or not we'd get a kick out of a Zero-G Deathmatch.

It's good to know that even while throwing bones to the co-op crowd (Pandemic's Mercenaries 2 and Lord of the Rings: Conquest, Wii shooter Dead Space: Extraction, and Army of Two: The 40th Day, among others), EA is looking for ways to introduce features into their games that promotes cooperative play.

Creepiness Abounds in Dead Space Extraction Gameplay FootageApril 13th, 2009 at 11:50 AM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

Dead Space Extraction has us intrigued.  First of all, the previous Dead Space game was fairly well received, though unfortunately it was single player only.  Secondly, the announcement of the game was a bit unclear.  Was it a straight port of the previous game?  Could the graphics capabilities of the Wii keep up?  Finally, Dead Space Extraction was revealed as a two person co-op "on the rails" style shooter.  This announcement caused some controversy, and many lost faith that Extraction would live up to the quality level of the first game.

To us here at Co-Optimus, co-op can cover up many ills, and we expect the experience of prowling around in a dark spaceship corridor, being hunted by horrific alien life forms, with a friend at your side, will be quite enjoyable.  And judging from an IGN video, which we have available for your viewing convenience after the break, the game looks suitably awesome.  Bits and pieces of actual gameplay footage are interspersed with a producer interview.  Check it out, and let us know what you think!

Deadspace Extraction Screens and PreviewMarch 19th, 2009 at 11:50 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Deadspace Extraction is the upcoming Wii version of last years hit survival horror game from Electronic Arts.  While the original Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game was a third person shooter, the Wii version will play like an on rails shooter.  While some may balk at it, the game does support 2 player co-op, as evidence by the screen above.  Speaking of screens, the folks at Cinema Blend have gotten their hands on a few new screenshots and concept art for the game.

Skewed and Reviewed sat down with the game's executive producer to get the details on just what players would be experiencing.   The game takes place right before Isaac Clarke's arrival, and has players moving with the artifact to the location seen at the end of the original game.  The really amazing thing about Extraction is it's gameplay length is about the same as the original Dead Space - which I clocked in at about 8 hours of play.  That's a lot for a on rails shooter!

Finally the co-op is discussed, and thankfully we get true drop-in/drop-out support throughout the entire game for two players.  There's even a promise of new challenges in co-op.
