When DJ Hero launched last year with its Renegade Edition for $200, well, not a lot of people spent $200 on it. And that's a good thing - for you! Right now Amazon has the Xbox 360 version of the Renegade Edition for $64. Yes...$64. DJ Hero supported a two player co-op mode with one turn table and a guitar.
With DJ Hero 2 on the horizon, now might be the perfect time to snag this edition as the co-op mode in DJ Hero 2 will utilize two turn tables, there's no word if the guitar co-op mode is making a comeback. The Renegade Edition comes with a stand, soundtrack cd, limited glossy black and gold turn table, and of course DJ Hero. Get it while you can, because it should go quick at that price!

Activision has announced a sequel to last year's DJ Hero in DJ Hero 2. While the core gameplay looks to be identical, developer Freestyle Games has instead focused on features and social play. It's unclear whether the guitar and turn-table co-op mode is making a comeback, instead we now have a mode where a player can pick up a microphone and sing along with one or two DJs.
Yes, two turntables and a microphone. Beck would be proud.

Right now you can snag DJ Hero on the Xbox 360, with the included hardware, for only $60. That price is almost half of what the game launched for last year. The PlayStation 3 version is also on sale for $80.
While the 2 player co-op mode is nothing ground breaking, the game itself is a ton of fun and at the current price point represents a decent value.

Things on the music game front have been surprisingly quiet. We know that Harmonix is working on Green Day: Rock Band, that much is certain. But that's pretty much it. Pretty odd when you consider how many upcoming music games we already knew about this time last year. (Could it be that we've reached the point of saturation? We have some thoughts on this we'll share with you soon.) Rumors about two more music games are swirling; one of them is confirmed, while the other isn't as substantial.

Do Androids Dream of Fake Plastic Turntables?
The sales numbers for DJ Hero are in, and they are disappointing at best. 122,300 copies of the game were sold across all platforms. That's very low for a music game, especially one that was as heavily promoted as DJ Hero. Ars Technica attempted to explain the low sales, and fans of co-op will likely appreciate this particular reason:
Rhythm games work best with crowds, and DJ Hero is a solitary experience. That's not a knock against it; playing the game is great fun. It's just hard to share with others, compared to the more popular Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises.
In other words, the lack of a compelling co-op mode may have been a factor in the game's lack of sales. Music games seem to work best in a party setting, and DJ Hero just doesn't work due to the single-player focus. Other reasons are listed in the article, but it just goes to show you that co-op is a major selling point for any game, especially one in a genre known for excellent co-op.

One of these ads are exciting, one of them, not so much. The 15 second TV spot commercials for DJ Hero don't show a whole lot of the game, but they do have a glimmer of style to them.
DJ Hero launches on October 27th with a 10 two player co-op songs playable with a guitar and turntable.

Music game intros seem to be getting more and more grand. If you've witnessed the intro for The Beatles Rock Band, you know exactly what I mean. Today we have the introduction for the two player co-op DJ Hero and it does it's own share of over the top-ness.
We've got giant turn tables, flying trucks, thumpin beats and Ushankas all rolled into one. This party has definitely gotten started, the rest of us can join in on October 27th when the game releases.
