Unlike the Wood Elves or Beastmen that were added to the first game, Total War: WARHAMMERthe Tomb Kings won't have their own story campaign to play. Instead, it appears that they're getting more Legendary Lords (4 instead of 2) than the other races, and within the "Eye of Vortex" campaign of Total War: WARHAMMER 2 campaign, the shambling hordes have a different goal than everyone else. The Tomb Kings care not about that giant swirling vortex and instead are focused on finding and recovering the Nine Books of Nagash. Each book grants the Tomb Kings a campaign bonus, though what those may be haven't been revealed, and all of this culminates in a battle at the Black Pyramid of Nagash. Like the rest of the races in Total War: WARHAMMER 2, that's not the only unique mechanic that the Tomb Kings will bring to the game, and full details can be found over in the Creative Assembly blog post.

Here are the details on the prison itself from the announcement:

There's a loose story in the DLC (someone stole some books from the Inn Keeper and you need to get them back) to spur the group of adventurers to a new location, but really, we're all here for the chance to put the pointy end of the sword into more Skaven. The new levels, Reikwald Forest and The River Reik, offer more outdoor/open terrain where you'll get swarmed from all sides, so be prepared for some epic "fighting back-to-back moments" with your co-op crew. The new Ceremonial Dagger for Sienna (the fire mage) will help with this as it can set enemies on fire.

This special challenge is a separate mission you take on outside of the main story campaign. It can be taken on alone or with your usual co-op crew, but regardless, be prepared. The Predator can cloak, use its Plasma Cannon and Smart Disc, and can freely run around the treetops in order to better get the drop on you. Senior producer Nouredine Abboud even hints that the nuclear option is always on the table. Should you come out on top in this encounter, however, then you'll be rewarded with the Predator's Wrist Blades and helmet, which allows you to turn on that iconic Predator heat vision.

The new content may be the equivalent of, say, "The Taken King" for the original Destiny, but what's added is good and needed. As Bungie said in their blog post last week, there are those folks that want to be able to hop into the game as they please and find something fun to do. The "Infinite Forest" may play into this by introducing "Heroic Adventures," which are tougher variants of the three Adventures that become available after completing the story. These variants include adding modifiers, like "Prism" that rotates through the different elements (Sol, Arc, Void) and increases the damage of whichever is selected and decreases the damage of the others. While the Adventures end in a section that is either the past, present, or future of Mercury, the path to get there is slightly randomized and constructed from pre-fab building blocks. It's something Bungie calls "intelligent assembly" (instead of the familiar "procedurally generated"). As this is the first week of its release, it's tough to say whether or not these Adventures will be rotated out every week, but it would offer a new/fun endgame activity for folks if they do.

If you've already picked up the DLC, either by buying it directly or via the Season Pass, then you can start pre-loading that content now. Fair warning for console users, you may need to free up some space. The DLC requires 88 Gb of space on the PlayStation 4, and 44 Gb of space on the Xbox One. That new planet and new guns need room, man!

To put this at the top of things, the DLC is very good! The two new classes (Necromancer and Inquisitor) are fun to play based on our time with it thus far, the level cap is now increased to 100, and we're all looking forward to checking out the new areas/loot (once we get that far). There is a lot of content you can get for $43 (base game + DLC) and as we do talk about (briefly) in the stream, it's a really solid action-RPG title.

Titled "War for the Atlas," the DLC will add new endgame content that tasks players with combating a new threat. If you're unfamiliar with Path of Exile, the "Atlas of Worlds" is a map system that allows players to face new (randomized) challenges once they've completed the main game. That entire system was added in the "Atlas of Worlds" DLC last year, and this year, with "War for the Atlas," players will find new challenges. Two forces, the Shaper and the Elder, are vying for control over the Atlas of Worlds and players will, essentially, be caught in the middle. What this means, as far as in-game content goes, is players will be able to battle for either force and allow that side to control more of the map. If the Elder controls more, he will create new bosses and, eventually, appear on the map as a new boss encounter. It's a pretty interesting idea/concept.

Back in 2013, Nordic Games bought a significant portion of properties that were associated with former developer/publisher THQ after it filed for bankruptcy. Last year, they Nordic Games rebranded itself as THQ Nordic and started doing some new work and republishing of those titles it acquired. Titan Quest was one of these properties and they did a little bit of rework on it before putting it back out there as Titan Quest: Anniversary, which also includes the first expansion "Immortal Throne." I think we all figured that that would be the end of things, but then the Austrian developer dropped new DLC. It's impressive that company is both keeping many of these titles alive by making them available again for modern consumption, while also working to add new content.

The new Operation White Noise adds three new operators; an attacker, a defender and a GROM operative who has few details but according the the blog post is “known for their resilience and bravery”. In addition to the characters, there is a new map that takes place in the Seoul skyline along with new weapons.

The "Comrades" expansion allows you to create your own avatar within the world of Eos and team up with others to accept quests and take down monsters. While there doesn't appear to by any obvious connection between this off-shoot and the main game, there apparently will be some tutorial/single-player missions that will try to tie things together. Additionally, Noctis and his buddies will be added to the expansion as playable characters at some point in the future.

There's a catch to all of this, naturally. While the "Mortal Empires" DLC is free to download and install, and it also supports two player online co-op, you have to own both games in order to play it. That caveat applies to both players, too. So, if you've got a friend that only picked up Total War: WARHAMMER 2 after you raved about it and the first one, then they cannot join you in a Mortal Empires campaign even if you host it because they only own one of the games. So, yes, the DLC is "free" if you've forked over $120 to buy both games.
