Slip Up Could Reveal Dead Rising 2 Co-Op ModeMarch 27th, 2009 at 6:52 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Gamespot has reason to believe that a Capcom artist accidently let the zombie out of the bag regarding Dead Rising 2 and the possiblity of a co-op mode.  In a recent session at GDC 09 Izmeth Siddeek stated that Dead Rising 2 is going to have "the GREATEST number of characters in a videogame."

So how many is the greatest?  According to the presentation somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,000 characters at once.  Here's the exact quote:

"6,000" was mentioned as being the maximum number of on-screen characters when multiple players are involved.

Multiple players?  That sounds like a co-op mode to me.  Gamespot pressed Capcom for more info but obviously they declined to comment.  We'll keep our chainsaws crossed on this one - it was a feature that was sorely missing from the original title.

Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2 GDC TrailerMarch 26th, 2009 at 7:49 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

GDC 09 was the perfect time for Infinity Ward to take the shroud of secrecy of its upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sequel.  It would have been the perfect time to announce and show of the game's co-op gameplay modes.   Unfortunately we are only left with a teaser trailer that doesn't really show us much of anything except a release date.

11-10-09

We really aren't any further along than before, and it's still unclear as to whether or not the latest CoD will support co-op, but if the community feedback is any indication - it damn well better have it!

New Space Invaders Extreme Screens and Trailer are...Extreme!March 25th, 2009 at 2:46 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Taito has released a handful of new screenshots of the four player co-op Xbox Live Arcade game, Space Invaders Extreme.  While the screens only show off the game's single player mode, you can get an idea of just how slick looking the game is, compared to it's portable little brother on the PSP and DS.

Along with the screens, Taito has released a video for GDC 09 showing off some gameplay.  It's easy to see how trance like the game is with the thumpin beats and sound effects blasting out the melody.  This ain't your Father's Space Invaders anymore!

No Retirement for Chris RedfieldMarch 25th, 2009 at 12:45 PM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

"Raccoon City needs me!"

A lot of gaming news outlets have been drooling for some juicy news this week, and so far very little mainstream goodies have come out of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

It's Wednesday, and aside from keynote presentations and a couple of exceptions, we haven't seen a whole lot of exciting news. Leave it to Capcom's producer Masachika Kawata to prop the door open for a flurry of ridiculous headlines...

We haven’t decided whether we’re going to make Resident Evil 6 yet. But if we do, it could take anywhere up to eight years, but hopefully only four.

Four years is a long development cycle, in my opinion. Of course, eight years is far more newsworthy...I couldn't help by roll my eyes at the headlines yesterday and this morning -- surely no one took Mr. Kawata seriously...?

In any case, we've lampooned the goofy quote in our own special way, and I think it goes without saying (even though I'm about to say it) that any game that takes four-to-eight years to develop had better have some pretty awesome co-op, especially if Capcom wants to live up to recent statements.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma Announced with a Co-Op Mode for PlayStation 3March 24th, 2009 at 10:13 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

God of War III To Feature Co-Op?March 23rd, 2009 at 8:31 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

This week kicks of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.  You can be we'll be covering it all week with some good co-op news, but up first out of the gate is a rumor from TheSixthAxis.com.

Sony's Santa Monica studio, developers of God of War 3, are giving three presentations at the show.  While the first two explicitly state "God of War 3" in them, it's the third one that doesn't that has our interest peaked.  The title of the presentation is "Drop-in COOP for Open World Games."

There's two sides here at play though.  The first is, God of War isn't really an open world game.  On the flip side - Sony Santa Monica has never made or announced an open world game.  The presentation kicks of Friday at 9AM Pacific, so we'll be keeping a close eye on it to see if the rumors hold true.  If anything, it's great news for co-op fans to see such a great co-op feature get an entire lecture focused on it.
