Rumor: New Ghost Recon Game Rated in AustraliaOctober 23rd, 2009 at 10:48 AM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

The rumor started with Ubisoft's financial earnings, citing a new Ghost Recon game to be released before March 2010, specifically Ghost Recon 4. Now, the Australian ratings board has a listing for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Predator, which many are presuming to be the fabled Ghost Recon 4.

To me, the title sounds like a portable title. Resistance: Retribution...Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow...Killzone: Liberation...you see the pattern. However, the listing clearly states that the game is rated for mature audiences, and has a "CG (Multi Platform)" classification.

I'm personally looking forward to continuations of the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six series, both of which have been co-op friendly this generation. Let's hope this rumor rings true.

Direct2Drive is celebrating their 5th birthday by offering a full month of $5 games.  We're only at week 2, but already we're seeing some great deals on over 25 titles.

What co-op titles can you snag for $5?

That's a total steal right there for any of them.  There's even some solid classic strategy games like Civilization IV, and a $5 deal on Bioshock!

Ghost Recon 4 is Official, Details are InvisibleMay 23rd, 2009 at 1:55 AM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

2008 was a prime year for GRAW 2 here at Co-Optimus.

This week Chuck Husemann of Gaming Nexus broadcasted his list of games that he wanted to see at E3 on Twitter, and asked followers if there were any he'd missed. I won't be attending E3, but like most of the gaming world, I'll be watching intently for both hardware and game announcements; Chuck's question inspired me to wonder if we'll see a new Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon game this year.

At the end of April, Ubisoft released a financial report for the fiscal year 2007-2008 and accidentally revealed unreleased game information. Since then, one of the two major headline contenders -- Assassin's Creed 2 -- has been officially announced and partially detailed. The other is -- you guessed it: a new Ghost Recon title, known only as Ghost Recon 4. This new iteration had been a running rumor, and was not much of a surprise.

Shortly following the sudden internet buzz, an official announcement was made, although without any assets or details. Lack of information aside, I'm sure many Co-Optimers are eager to hear more about Ghost Recon 4; GRAW 2 was a very popular co-op game in 2008, and still generates interest in the Co-Optimus meetup thread on our forums.

New Ghost Recon Title Coming Before March 2010January 23rd, 2009 at 9:59 PM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

Two weeks ago, a rumor was on the loose -- a rumor that claimed that Ubisoft was cooking up new Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six titles to be release sometime in 2009.

Now, it seems that at least half of the rumor was fairly accurate: Joystiq reports that among the myriad of planned sequels and new titles listed in Ubisoft's latest earnings statement, a fresh Ghost Recon title will see the light of day before the end of the next fiscal year (March 2010).

The original rumor is supposedly fed by a person on the inside, who advises that a new Rainbow Six is being developed as well, and that both co-op Tom Clancy titles will be revealed "soon" and released in 2009.

Co-op Deals This WeekSeptember 08th, 2008 at 12:26 AM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

Hopefully, I'll still be here after bumping a news item over the great Top 5 article by bapenguin and AgtFox, but I've been itching all day to announce Circuit City's deals on co-op games this week.

Although the promotions are not limited to co-op games only -- nor to Xbox 360 games only -- but this is a good opportunity to pick up co-op games that may not have appealed to you otherwise...

$10 gift card with pre-order:

  • Gears of War 2
  • Fable 2

$14.99 sale price:

  • Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
  • Saint's Row

Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 also happen to be on the Top 5 List. Somebody at Circuit City must be a Co-optimus fan...

GRAW 2 DLC Incoming on 360. Lots of Co-Op!January 29th, 2008 at 9:41 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

It appears we've hit the motherload of cooperative content for Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2 on the Xbox 360.  Game Almighty is reporting that we should expect new content on Xbox Live.  The content is called Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 Co-op Collection.   So what does it have?

The GRAW 2 Co-op Collection consists of five Co-op Campaign missions that continue the story from GRAW 2. In total there are nine maps, seven of which are inspired by classic maps from Ghost Recon’s illustrious history and two that are totally brand new. All nine maps (including adversarial versions of the Co-op Campaign maps) have exquisite visuals and support all of GRAW 2’s thousands of customizable game modes.

The co-op campaign is even back with an all new story.   It also include over 10 new maps, a lot from classic Ghost Recon games found on the PC.  There's also a free download of new weapons available.
