Smash T.V. Sequel was in the WorksNovember 07th, 2009 at 7:56 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Earlier this year Midway, makers of such classic games as Mortal Kombat and Smash T.V., went bankrupt and folded.  Pieces of the studio were bought up, and rights to certain games went this way and that.  Lost in the whole mess though is something of a disappointment, as we've found out the original creators of the classic co-op game Smash T.V. were working on a sequel.

The game was into the actual development stages, with 3D prototypes available.  Smash TV was known for it's high paced and bloody co-op action as players faced rooms of enemies in a game show environment.  Mark Turmell, the game's co-creator thinks we'll still see it someday, with the popularity of twin stick shooters on XBLA and PSN being at a high.  Warner Bros. now owns the rights, which they bought for 400 toasters and five 2600" TVs.

EVGA Releases a Video Card with Co-Op, Physics-Only GPUNovember 03rd, 2009 at 1:02 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

While EVGA has had a CO-OP line of video cards for a while now, their latest edition to the dual GPU lineup is something a bit unique.  Instead of allowing SLI on a single card like most of the other co-op cards, the GTX 275 CO-OP uses a GTX 275 GPU for graphics and a GTS 250 GPU for PhysX support.  PhysX allows the GPU to do advance physics processing and effects.

The advantage of this in this case, is it allows EVGA to make a cheaper card with PhysX support, and not force people to get a much more expensive full dual GPU card.  Still at $350 it's no small chunk of change.  I vote they bundle in a solid co-op game with PhysX support like Sacred 2: Fallen Angel.

First Week's Halo Waypoint Schedule UnveiledNovember 02nd, 2009 at 10:25 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

If you happen to be in the new Xbox 360 Dashboard Preview Program, you've already got access to Halo Waypoint.  That's good news, right?  Well I have better news for you.  The Waypoint team just released the schedule, starting today, with all the content that's on tap.

The really good news?  You'll be the first people to see the premiere episode of Halo Legends called "The Babysitter," which is on tap this Saturday.  That's the only day you'll be able to see it for FREE, and only on Waypoint.  If you didn't know, Halo Legends is a brand new anime series set in the Halo universe.

We think you should keep an eye out on next week's Waypoint schedule, because you just might see something that looks familiar.

Painkiller Resurrection's Co-Op Mode Not Exactly IntuitiveNovember 02nd, 2009 at 9:12 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

If you picked up Painkiller: Resurrection on the PC last week with hopes of glorious cooperative stake gunning in your head, you may have been disappointed to find no menu option for co-op.  Rest assured though, the game does have co-op support, it's just a little ridiculous as to how you have to start it.

"To play a coop game you have to start a dedicated server with the tool provided together with your game. Pull in the campaign maps from C9L01 to C9L06, choose FFA and start the game. You can also add / remove bots accompanying you there.  We will add a more convenient ingame coop menu with the next update "

That's from a JoWood representative on the official message boards.  Were you expecting a nice simple solution for co-op?  Sorry, none to be found here.  Thankfully JoWood confirms they are working on a "more convenient way of accessing co-op" in a future update.

Gee thanks.

Steam Adds Native Windows 7 SupportOctober 29th, 2009 at 7:18 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

If you're a fan of Steam and happen to be running Microsoft's recent Windows 7 operating system, you're in for a treat.  The latest Steam update adds full native Windows 7 support for features like jump lists and process bars.

What does that mean?  Seen above you'll have quick access to recent games, mostly co-op ones in my case, quick online tasks as well as one click access to all the tabs.  The best part is Steam doesn't need to be running to take advantage of these features.  Finally while Steam updates, the task bar icon will show the progress in real time.  Suddenly your Left 4 Dead and Dawn of War 2 sessions got a whole lot easier.

While you're updating Steam, don't forget to join our Steam Group!

Nintendo Announces the DSi LLOctober 29th, 2009 at 8:07 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Believe it or not, the Nintendo DS has been out for five years now.  But the DSi?  Barely even 6 months.  But that didn't stop Nintendo from announcing a brand new DS system called the DSi LL.  This extra large version of the DSi features dual four inch screens, a bigger stylus, and a longer battery life.

The screens themselves are the same resolution as the smaller screens of the DSi, so expect some truly pixelated looking displays.  All other specs of the system are identical to the DSi - dual cameras, SD card slot, and clamshell design.  The total weight of the system is 314g or about 11oz.  The DSi weighs 7.5oz.

Borderlands Bug Status and UpdatesOctober 28th, 2009 at 11:02 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

The official Gearbox Forums are keeping tab on some of the issues plaguing Borderlands players in terms of bugs and glitches.  The full list currently sits at two solved issues, eight open issues, and ten under investigation.

It's a good idea to head over there if you are experiencing any problems to see if it's a known issue, and whether or not there's a work around.   The most serious glitch affects 360 and PS3 gamers, and it appears to be save file corruption.  Nobody likes losing a character they put 20+ hours into.

Left 4 Dead 2 PC Demo Remains Locked [UPDATE]October 27th, 2009 at 8:06 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Despite numerous people pre-loading Left 4 Dead 2's exclusive demo, PC users appear to be left in the dark waiting for it to unlock.  It was originally scheduled to unlock sometime today, October 27th, but so far we just have an "unreleased" status.

We would assume Valve is aware of the problem, there's plenty of angry forum posters everywhere, but so far they haven't responded.  Thankfully Xbox 360 owners are unaffected, and many have download and are currently playing said demo.  We'll update the post as soon as our status changes from "unreleased" to "impending zombie horde."

Update:  It looks like Valve has officially moved the demo till 11PM Pacific - or 2AM on October 28th Eastern.

Update 2:  And it's pushed back again.  Official time of unlocking is today, October 28th at 1PM Eastern.

Modern Warfare 2 to Utilize Steam, New Spec Ops DetailsOctober 26th, 2009 at 8:08 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Activision and Valve have announced a partnership that requires Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to utilize Valve's Steamworks platform.  This means any version of the game, both retail and digital, will require Valve's Steam application to be installed.

The good news is the game will support some advanced Steam features like achievements and Steam Cloud, which will save your settings and progress so that you can access it from any computer you play on.  No need to bring your saved games with you!

Microsoft Store Prints Games on DemandOctober 25th, 2009 at 7:31 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Along with the launch of Windows 7 last week, Microsoft launched another huge initiative - retail stores.  Much like Apple does with their stores, Microsoft wants users to have a one stop shop for everything under the MS brand including PC and Xbox video games.  In fact, you can actually bring your Xbox into one for service should you find yourself with one of those dreaded errors.

There's another interesting thing that launched with the store, and that's games on demand printing for Games for Windows titles.  You simply use a kiosk to select the game from the entire catalog, and the system will print you a brand new copy including the manual, boxart and case.  The whole process takes about five minutes, and it makes me wonder why something like this wasn't in place sooner for PC gaming.  It'll be that much easier to get yourself and a friend a copy of Dawn of War 2.

In fact, why hasn't someone created an entire retail kiosk chain on this concept?
