Mercenaries 2 has been covered many here at Co-Optimus. Having played a bit of the game, it seems like a decent mercenary simulator. Well, for those of you clamoring for an update for Mercs 2, your prayers are being answered. According to Shacknews, an update for the game will be coming out on October 13th for the 360 and PS3 versions of the game. The update will add cheat codes to the game (essential for a game like Mercenaries 2) and several new playable characters.
On the co-op front, the update is supposed to loosen restrictions for playing with buddies from other regions. So, sounds like everyone's getting a bit of what they want.

It's no secret that we really like Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. We've been playing the co-op mode, enjoying blowing things up like it's going out of style. Dropping a bunker buster on a building (or a teammate) never gets old. And despite the fact that there's still tons of game to play, the folks at Pandemic have put together a "stunts" video that shows off some other things you can attempt in the game. A lot of the really cool stunts they show off require co-op play to complete (like above) - and I gotta say, I'm pretty pumped now after watching the video.

The folks at Pandemic Studios are back with their sequel to the hit PS2 and Xbox game Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. We take a look at the new title on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and give you the goods on the aftermath. Are you ready to blow stuff up with your friends? We think this game might be for you.

Pandemic Studios has announced that from September 5th to September 12th you will be able to collect on the 50 point "Everybody Wants Some" achievement by playing with a Pandemic developer. Here is some of the info below with more after the break:
Pandemic Studios' Mercenaries 2: World in Flames will provide the arena, as the developers battle it out with Xbox LIVE® members. Pandemic will be on hand from September 5 through September 12, giving you a chance to be one of the first to get the 50-point "Everybody Wants Some!!" achievement!

We've got a double co-op feature this week. First up is Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise for the Xbox 360. The title features a recently announced 4 player co-op mode for both online and offline play. The game is similar to the Animal Crossing series from Nintendo, but has some zany humor and plenty of gardening goodness with pinatas to pop and populate.
Next up is Mercenaries 2: World in Flames which is available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PC. The game features 2 player co-op for online play including drop in and drop out support. The game is an open world playground of destruction where you'll complete missions in a war zone as a mercenary. I've been playing a good bit of this and it's a total blast, the co-op has a solid Crackdown vibe to it.
Both games should hit store shelves tomorrow, September 3rd.

We've been covering Mercenaries 2: World in Flames for some time now, and the wait is almost over. To celebrate the launch of the game, EA is running a unique and quite memorable promotion. They have taken over an entire gas station in Los Angeles, and are giving away free fuel to promote Mercs 2's release! You can even get a mercenary to pump your gas for you, though given the games subtitle, and the above screenshot, you might be risking turning your car into a giant fireball by doing so. (No real mercenaries will be featured, just actors, but still, it's cool.) You have to admire the marketing folks who came up with this one. If you live in LA, hop on over and check it out before they run the pumps dry! The live feed for the promotion is featured here, and the full press release is available after the break.

The folks at EA have just released a brand new Co-Op Trailer for the upcoming Mercenaries 2 game on the Xbox 360, Windows and PlayStation 3. The trailer really focuses on all the aspects of co-op play and how there's seemlessly endless possibilities. The entire single player campaign can be played co-op and it's true drop-in/drop-out support. At any time you can simply invite a buddy in and away you go off to destruction.
I gotta say, I'm getting a Crackdown vibe from this one - and that's a really good thing. The action looks over the top, the vehicles look like a blast, and the destruction effects are amazing. Look for Mercenaries 2: World in Flame at the end of this month.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then surely the above screenshot could replace the quite lengthy title of the game. Flames? Check. A mercenary? Yup. So there it is, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. IGN has posted a hands on preview of the game as played in co-op. Perennial favorites like seamless drop in-drop out co-op make the feature list, and there are a few other nice little touches as well.
Money and weapons earned while playing in the host's game will transfer to your own game, though progress through the content will not. The game's difficulty will not scale with the addition of a buddy; this is likely not too much of a problem due to the sheer number of enemies and toughness of many of the game's areas. In co-op, players can resurrect each other, rather than failing the mission and having to restart, which is a tremendous benefit.
The preview gives details about a couple of the missions from game, which sound quite entertaining. This quote pretty much sums it up:
It's really quite something to watch a building vaporized and see a mushroom cloud bloom from its ashes.
I was watching the daily G4 television program last night and they had a playable demo of Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. I thought I would share the video of that section here and also tell you that they confirmed there would be 2-player co-op with drop-in/drop-out abilities...pretty cool!
Check it out after the break...
