New York Comic Con 2009 CoverageFebruary 10th, 2009 at 2:24 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Here's your one stop roundup for all of our New York Comic Con 2009 coverage. We've got games, games, pictures, and more games all waiting at your finger tips!

The Rest of the Show - Damnation and Jumpgate Evolution [NYCC]February 10th, 2009 at 8:49 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

We've almost come to the end of our NY Comic-Con coverage.  With so many games on the show floor, we didn't have as much time as we wanted to to go in depth with everything.  But...we tried our hardest to play what we could.  There's two more games I wanted to briefly talk about,  both have cooperative play.  Both games also couldn't be anymore different.

On one hand you have this sort of steam punk western style shooter...and on the other you have this gorgeous space flight MMO.  I'm talking about Damnation and Jumpgate Evolution

House of the Dead Overkill Impressions [NYCC]February 09th, 2009 at 5:51 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Sega's booth was one of the most active on the NY Comic Con show floor.  Whether that's because they were giving out free t-shirts, or because they had a ton of great games...well that's yet to be seen.  Buried deep within the confines of the booth, hidden behind zombies giving out comics and hugs...yes zombie hugs...was House of the Dead Overkill.  The game is a two player co-op shooter for the Wii, and it's the first House of the Dead game that isn't based on an arcade title.

It was odd not to see the game playable in co-op show on the floor, I mean, after all the game is designed for that.  The Sega folks aren't really breaking the mold either for the game, at least not completely.  While still on rails you'll find yourself able to slightly look past the edges of the screen by moving the aiming cursor there.  This helps you find hidden items and ammo, and perhaps some other surprises.  Is this where the zombie hugs hide?

Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao Impressions [NYCC]February 09th, 2009 at 10:14 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

 .

Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao was only announced last week, but that didn't stop Namco-Bandai from showing it off at this past weekend's New York Comic-Con.   While we originally thought it looked a lot like RagDoll Kung-Fu - we couldn't be more mistaken.

At its core, Invincible Tiger is a beat em up game.  Featuring 2 player co-op play through the entire campaign, players will punch, kick, and kung-fu action their way through Ninjas and other various baddies.  The whole game sports a stylized 1970's kung-fu film filter that includies film scratches and pops.  The characters may not be very detailed, but they offer a ton of little things that add to the personality of the game.  The big thing I noticed right away was the animations.  I haven't seen silky smooth animations like these since Flashback on the PC ages ago.  In fact, combined with the character style it really felt very similar in presentation.

Ghostbusters May Get a True Co-Op Mode Yet [NYCC]February 08th, 2009 at 10:26 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

By far one of the more popular titles on the show floor was Ghostbusters from Atari.  With all three systems on display (360, PS3, and Wii) and about six guys cosplaying the crew (their outfits and proton packs were AMAZING) everyone had caught the Ghostbusters fever.

I've got good news and I've got bad news.  The good news is the Wii version of the game is going to feature two player split-screen co-op play.  The bad news is the next-gen version of the game...well...the folks at Atari aren't saying.

H.A.W.X. Hands on Impressions [NYCC]February 08th, 2009 at 9:58 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

The first co-op game we looked at during the New York Comic Con was actually the best game we saw.   Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X from Ubisoft not only looked beautiful, it played really well too.  Featuring full four player co-op through the entire campaign, in drop-in and drop-out fashion, H.A.W.X. was an easy choice for our game of the show.

The demo on the show floor was available on the Xbox 360 in three forms.  The first was with the standard 360 controller, the second was with a Saitek flight stick, and the third was in this crazy motion based chair.   Oh...right...and the chair costs $400.

Dragon Age Hands on Preview [NYCC]February 08th, 2009 at 9:43 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

I'll admit it, I put way too many hours to count into Bioware's Baldur's Gate on the PC more than 10 years ago.  So despite what you see in the above screenshot, when I glared at the screen at the NY Comic Con, I was shocked to see something that looked eerily similar to the classic title so near and dear to my heart.

Despite the lack of any multi player, including co-op, you'll find Dragon Age as the definitive D&D RPG for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.  Yes, this game IS coming to all three consoles.  If Bioware gets their way it'll be a simultaneous release on all platforms, though there are some doubts about the PlayStation 3 version according to Jay Watamaniuk, the game's community manager.

Battlefield: 1943 Impressions [NYCC]February 08th, 2009 at 8:39 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

While we got our hands on a ton of great co-op games, I wanted to point out a few other standout titles you guys may enjoy.  First up is the recently announced Battlefield: 1943.  The game is a remake, or re-imaging of sorts of the original Battlefield: 1942 for the PC.

Containing three maps, including the incredible Wake Island, the game will ship for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC this summer.  That's right, this is a fully downloadable game with a downloadable price.  According to the game's associate producer, Gordon VanDyke, they are teetering between $15 and $20, and it was obvious they were trying to gauge what the press and public thought the value was here.

NY Comic Con 2009 in PhotosFebruary 08th, 2009 at 8:16 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

We start our NY Comic Con 2009 coverage with a handful of shots from the show floor.  We've got some great pictures of the entire thing.  What impressed me most was the sheer size of the show.  From a square footage perspective, this even topped last years PAX.  The people that were there were all upbeat and fun, with plenty of cos players wondering around posing for pictures.

As we reported, there was a large gaming presence.  The nice thing about it was, in relation to say PAX, there weren't very long lines at the booths because the primary focus of the show was supposed to be the comics.  That being said we got a ton of hands on time with games, a ton of great chats with developers, and some unique and exclusive information.

We'll be updating the site throughout the upcoming days so be sure to check back, for now...enjoy the pictures!

Activision Preview Event - Prototype, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and WolfensteinFebruary 06th, 2009 at 1:17 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Last night we were lucky enough to get some hands on time with upcoming Activision games for a pre-NY Comic Con event.  We examined the ex co-op game Prototype, slashed some bad guys in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and met our old friend BJ Blaskowitz it's Wolfenstein.

While there's no co-op to be found here, there's some solid info here worth checking out!
