Since announcing the game this past June, the Swedish developer has been pretty quiet on details about the title. With last night's trailer, it appears that we'll be getting more info with greater frequency now. The main focus of the two-minute video is the moment about halfway through when a bunch of monsters bust through a door and attack everyone. Prior to that, things are pretty quiet as four people make their way through some underground area in search of a vault. It's all very moody and while there are familiar beats (i.e., "we're busting into a place to steal some stuff and get out"), the part where "things go bad" and you have to try to get away looks hectic. You're not setting up defensive areas to trade bullets with cops, instead you and your buddies are working to just survive against a horrific swarm.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Demo ImpressionsJason Love

It’s worth noting that the demo I played had no co-op to it, it was strictly a 10-minute single-player affair. There were two playable characters (the Empire soldier, Markus, or the Waywatcher, Kerillian) and none of the progression or loot systems were available to try or even peruse. Despite this, there were a few things of note that made me more intrigued in this game; specifically, the way the two characters felt different from one another, and the possibilities that the career paths will present for each hero.

Along with the new weapon, the war pike, and the two new behemoths, the armored Skarn and the agile Kharabak, the "Sharpen Your Skills" update also includes a change that may prove fairly significant. Previously, there wasn't much distinction between the different weapons other than whatever you personally preferred. With the update, damage types have been added to all the weapons and those damage types will affect the behemoths in different ways. For instance, all hammers do blunt damage, which is effective against armor (HI SKARN!) and for stunning behemoths. Other weapons do piercing damage that will weaken a behemoth's limbs, making them more vulnerable to slashing damage. As the developers point out in the video below, it's not necessary to go hunting with a mix of all these damage types, but they do add a new strategic level to the game. Weapons can be customized further with the new "Cell System" that adds slots to a hunter's gear into which "cells" can be dropped to enhance damage, defensive values, or add elemental damage/effects.

There isn't much yet about the game, other than a trailer to set the tone and a few tidbits about co-op gameplay that looks to mix action with strategy.

The new content may be the equivalent of, say, "The Taken King" for the original Destiny, but what's added is good and needed. As Bungie said in their blog post last week, there are those folks that want to be able to hop into the game as they please and find something fun to do. The "Infinite Forest" may play into this by introducing "Heroic Adventures," which are tougher variants of the three Adventures that become available after completing the story. These variants include adding modifiers, like "Prism" that rotates through the different elements (Sol, Arc, Void) and increases the damage of whichever is selected and decreases the damage of the others. While the Adventures end in a section that is either the past, present, or future of Mercury, the path to get there is slightly randomized and constructed from pre-fab building blocks. It's something Bungie calls "intelligent assembly" (instead of the familiar "procedurally generated"). As this is the first week of its release, it's tough to say whether or not these Adventures will be rotated out every week, but it would offer a new/fun endgame activity for folks if they do.

The title supports three player online or three player LAN co-op throughout the campaign, and in the Multiplayer mode where you can team up against A.I. opponents (i.e., "comp stomping"). What's interesting about the co-op here is that you can actually specify what your buddies can and can't do. For instance, maybe one of your friends wants to just focus on the resource management/base-building aspects of the game. Perhaps your other friend just wants to control the heroes and army units. SpellForce 3 lets you do just that. In some ways, this division of duties helps with some of the confusion that could arise otherwise as there aren't a lot of indications when another player has selected a particular unit or building.

Ubisoft is celebrating today's new content update by offering a free trial period for the game, which effectively runs from Thursday morning to Sunday night.  Players who participate will be able to play the base game as well as all three expansions, meaning those who bought the game at launch but never purchased DLC will also get a chance to jump back in and see what all has changed.  Should they choose to keep playing after the free weekend is over, players can pick the game up at a steep discount - 67% or 70% off, depending on what version of the game they'd like to grab.

If you've already picked up the DLC, either by buying it directly or via the Season Pass, then you can start pre-loading that content now. Fair warning for console users, you may need to free up some space. The DLC requires 88 Gb of space on the PlayStation 4, and 44 Gb of space on the Xbox One. That new planet and new guns need room, man!

In an hour-long developer stream, the team over at Trendy Entertainment laid out the new content that will be arriving sometime this month. The “Power of the Ancients” update includes a new game mode (Onslaught), new ways to customise characters via Defender packs, and a new HUGE map (they emphasize the size a number of times) that can feature twice as many baddies to duke it out with and as the official dev blog says, “Much more!”. The trailer can be found below, as well as the full livestream on Trendy Entertainment's official YouTube channel, here.

To put this at the top of things, the DLC is very good! The two new classes (Necromancer and Inquisitor) are fun to play based on our time with it thus far, the level cap is now increased to 100, and we're all looking forward to checking out the new areas/loot (once we get that far). There is a lot of content you can get for $43 (base game + DLC) and as we do talk about (briefly) in the stream, it's a really solid action-RPG title.

In Rise and Fall, alliances will offer allied players more choice as well as tangible benefits. In the expansion, players will choose whether it is a Research, Military, Economic, Cultural, or Religious alliance when an alliance is created. Each type has its own set of unique perks with these perks being powerful enough that players can only have one alliance of each type at a time; however, allied players can agree to change the type of their shared alliance after it has been made.

The first Outbreak title was a slightly different affair, being a top-down, twin-stick shooter with survival and puzzle elements. The New Nightmare shifts to the 3D world and it sounds like this more aligns with what they wanted to do with Outbreak all along. Much like the titles from which it draws upon, New Nightmare will pit you and your buddies against the shambling hordes of the undead and you'll have to scour the environment to find the supplies necessary to survive. Here are some of the features the title touts:
