Door Kickers: Action Squad Stream RecapJason Love

I only ever played a little of the original Door Kickers, though I know both Nick and Locke really dug the top-down tactical action that it offered. Changing the format to a side-scrolling action platformer left both of them wondering how tactical it would be, and we were all pleasantly surprised by what KillHouse has done with this follow-up. Each level presents players with a set objective (e.g., rescue all hostages, clear all hostiles, or defuse a bomb), and the way you go about achieving said objective is entirely up to you and your co-op buddy. For example, two enemies standing below two skylights presents a great chance for you and your buddy to do a quick little countdown and drop down on the baddies simultaneously. You could also drop down on your own (assuming you're playing as the "Shield" class) to attract their attention/fire, while your buddy drops down a little after behind them and takes them out. The way you go about doing all of this is entirely up to you and elements of the game reminded us of titles like GunpointRonin, and Hotline: Miami.

The event, titled "Outbreak," will arrive with the first season of content (titled "Operation Chimera") when it drops sometime early next year. The event will be free-to-play during a four week period, which seems to imply that you won't need to acquire the Operation Chimera content in order to play. In the new event, players will take on zombies, who are the ever-present threat in video games. Additionally, during that four week period players will be able to earn unique cosmetic rewards tied to the event.

Back in 2013, Nordic Games bought a significant portion of properties that were associated with former developer/publisher THQ after it filed for bankruptcy. Last year, they Nordic Games rebranded itself as THQ Nordic and started doing some new work and republishing of those titles it acquired. Titan Quest was one of these properties and they did a little bit of rework on it before putting it back out there as Titan Quest: Anniversary, which also includes the first expansion "Immortal Throne." I think we all figured that that would be the end of things, but then the Austrian developer dropped new DLC. It's impressive that company is both keeping many of these titles alive by making them available again for modern consumption, while also working to add new content.

The core "hook" to Circuit Breakers is that all the weapons have unlimited ammo, however, shooting also uses up special crystals (dropped by enemies) that upgrade your gun. This "tug of war" mechanic means you shouldn't just "spray and pray" and adds an interesting strategic element to the usual twin-stick shooter gameplay.

Officially, no reason has been given as to why Marvel/Disney decided to end things and revoke the license for the game. In the email to Kotaku, the Marvel representative merely stated "We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down." Later in the day, an official post was made on the game's forums stating that the final day would be December 31, 2017, and that they would be "...removing real money purchases as soon as possible. Players will be able to play the game entirely for free once this sunset period commences." There's been no statement thus far as to what will happen to Gazillion itself.

When we checked out the original game, I was a mere bystander to Mike and Locke's hijinks. This time, I decided to dive deep into all that mud, and boy, there is a lot of it.
