Welcome back to Beyond Co-Op Reviews, our critical look at games that don't feature co-op modes....
I’ve been a fan of Power Rangers since the franchise started back in the 90s. Throughout the years, my sons and I have watched countless episodes. We bought the ranger action figures, the giant robot toys, a whole mess of morphers, Halloween costumes, and plenty of video game tie-ins. Upon hearing the news of a new Power Rangers game, a retro...
The Power Rangers are not only getting a new movie next year, they're also getting a new game. Bandai Namco and developer Bamtang will release Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle. a side-scrolling beat 'em up title, next year for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
When the number one kid's show in the United States goes video game, it becomes pretty exciting news for the publisher. That's precisely the case with Power Ranger Samurai, going co-op on the Wii later this year. I took a minute to familiarize myself with the show, toys, and Wii game with NamcoBandai at E3 this year to bring back a preview of sorts.
For Co-Op Casual Friday this week, we take a look at one of the most beloved kids' franchises of all time. The TV show has been running for a decade and a half, and the toy line is one of the all time best sellers. Mixing martial arts, colorful costumes, crazy weapons, and my favorite, giant robots, Power Rangers is a lot of fun. Power Rangers video games have ranged from okay to terrible, but the most recent title, released for the PS2, Power Rangers Super Legends, is easily the best. The real draw for Power Rangers Super Legends is the fact that it includes dozens of different characters pulled from all the various teams. It is the Power Rangers equivalent of a Justice League/Avengers crossover. From the original Red and Pink Rangers to the current (at the time) Operation Overdrive squad, most fan favorites are here. My personal pick, the SPD Shadow Ranger (who is a dog headed alien!), appears, but the most popular Ranger ever, Tommy, is notably absent. Many of the gigantic mechanized Megazords from the shows appear as well. Fans of the show will find plenty to love here.
