Beyond Co-Op Reviews - July 2012

Wow.  It's been three months since we've done a round-up of our Beyond Co-Op Reviews.  For that, we apologize.  It was a pretty busy time up until a few weeks ago, but now we're back with a huge batch of reviews of the latest games that don't necessarily feature co-op play.  Without further ado, here are 8 game reviews for your reading pleasure from our staff.

PSN "11 for 11" Sale Has Co-Op Games for 50% Off

Not to be outdone by the bevy of sales from Microsoft, the PlayStation Network has announced their "11 for 11" sale. That's right, eleven PS3 games for half the price, in honor of 2011.  (Personally, I can't wait for 2099. That sale should be incredible.)  There is a smattering of co-op goodies sprinkled into the lineup, including Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue, HoardSoldner-X2: Final Prototype, Comet Crash, and Shatter.  These offers are only available until the end of the month.  For a full list of pricing and games getting the half off treatment, read on.

Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype Hits PSN this May

The Original Söldner-X: Himmelssturmer has possibly the longest and hardest name to say for a side scrolling shooter ever.  Seriously, it sounds like you have a mouth full of hot taco beef and tried to recite Shakespeare.  But there's a sequel now, one that isn't as hard to pronounce, it's called Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype and it's an upgrade from it's predecessor in a handful of ways.

Prototype Co-Op Officially Done. Forever. For Good. Fin.

I remember when they announced the co-op mode of Prototype was cancelled.  They left us with a glimmer of hope, hope that perhaps they would come to their senses and add back in some sort of cooperative mode.  We all had visions of Crackdown in our heads, and despite a possibility of a sequel, this was as close as we were going to get.  But now a recent 1UP interview with Radical Entertainment's Chris Ansell, well it looks like there's no chance in hell.

Prototype Co-Op Mode Cancelled

Why was multiplayer cut from PROTOTYPE? Tim Bennison: From its inception PROTOTYPE was planned first and foremost as a single player open-world/action game. Naturally, with Alex’s genetically mutated shape-shifting abilities, we started to explore what would happen if he were to sub-divide into two PROTOTYPEs and what kind of multiplayer gameplay we could create around that concept. We’ve been looking at this potential multiplayer idea much more closely as PROTOTYPE’s development has been progressing, and while it’s a great concept and gameplay bonus, our conclusion is that we won’t be able to pull it off with the same level of quality and polish that we’re aiming for with the original single player story.
