Resistance 2 is "just about finished"September 15th, 2008 at 8:27 PM by Blake "broodax" Corner

Resistance 2 is quite the popular game.  We've covered it for a while, and it is one of our most anticipated co-op titles coming out this year. So, we feel it is our duty to let the Resistance fans out there know about important news about Resistance 2, which is supposed to come out on November 2nd. Well, good news Resistance 2 fans: Resistance 2 is close to being finished. Gamespot has a rather good interview with Insomniac's Ted Price, which in addition to discussing the release date, actually has some good information regarding co-op.

TP: Because Resistance 2 is really three games in one (single-player campaign, co-op campaign, and multiplayer competitive modes), the biggest challenge has been simply getting the game done. We take a lot of pride in our finished products, so we've been loath to cut any corners during development. Another way of putting this is that we value our fans' satisfaction above everything else, so we've killed ourselves to deliver a huge game where every component is super high quality.

Well, this is a nice thing to see from a dev: actually listening to your fans. Hit the link and read more about Resistance 2 and the process that went into giving it a robust co-op mode.

Insomniac wants You to Choose their Cover for Resistance 2August 27th, 2008 at 9:08 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

You...no...to the left, no behind the man with the feath...yeah you!  Insomniac wants YOU to choose the cover for the upcoming 8 Player Co-Op friendly Resistance 2 Special Edition (regular edition will have co-op too).

The first two choices are very similar, showing the main character staring eerily at the camera with a glowing amber backdrop of San Francisco taken over by those pesky alien invaders.  The last one however, oh the last one.  This one is near and dear to my heart.   Hit the read more link to see all three covers and tell us which one you like the best.  Personally I'd like to see a fourth option which shows off the 8 player co-op...but that's just me.

To cast your official ballot, head on over to IGN and follow the simple instructions at the bottom.

Co-op News from the Sony Press ConferenceJuly 15th, 2008 at 9:09 PM by Loren "AgtFox" Halek

Well, they didn't really hone in on co-op, but they did show off a couple things.

First up was the 8-player co-op campaign enabled Resistance 2 coming in November.  They didn't show the co-op or talk about it, but we know it's there.

The other game was a new one called MAG: Massive Action Game from Zipper Interactive, makers of the old SOCOM games.  This game will have 256 players able to play at the same time and you play with a squad of 8 members and the more respected members will be the leader of that squad.  Only a pre-rendered movie was shown ala Killzone 2 a few years ago.  It sounds pretty cool and Jack Tretton, President of Sony America, said that it "pushes the PS3 to its limit".  Translation: this is a long way from being done.

Gamepro Dishes on Resistance 2July 03rd, 2008 at 4:29 PM by Blake "broodax" Corner

Well, if you can't get enough Resistance 2, GamePro has you covered. In their newest issue, the August issue, they devote ten pages to the co-op friendly game. The GamePro folks say that they've played the game's 8 player co-op mode and have the details, as well as details from the multiplayer mode and single player mode. The extensive Resistance 2 coverage seems to give a good overview of the game, so pick it up if you are a Resistance fan.

Resistance 2 Co-Op Campaign SeparateJune 05th, 2008 at 9:19 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Eurogamer recently held a Live Q&A with Insomniac Studio's Director Ted Price in regards to the upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive shooter Resistance 2.  By now you've heard about the amazingly promising 8-player co-op mode in the game, but what we haven't heard was any details on this - only that it would be a class based system

In the Q&A we learn that the co-op campaign will "flesh out the world with its separate story" and be lighter with no big movies.  I think that's a perfectly reasonable use for co-op, to add to an already engaging single player experience.  In fact, that's almost like getting two games for the price of one.

Another interesting co-op tidbit learned is players won't be confined to the same area as other players.  That is, if one player would like to wonder off on their own to meet a timely demise - they are perfectly able to do this.  In other words, the game isn't going to force people to stick together.  This can help bring some new and interesting tactics to the co-op aspect of the game, and from what we hear the co-op campaign is incredibly difficult and team work will be essential.

We'll keep a close eye on more Resistance 2 details as the become available, and we'll be eagerly awaiting 8-player co-op this fall on the Playstation 3.

New Resistance 2 Co-Op DetailsFebruary 12th, 2008 at 11:55 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

GamecenterOnline has some new details regarding the cooperative experience in Resistance: Fall of Man 2 for the Playstation 3.  The game is set to feature an 8 player co-op campaign, which apparently, is playable online.

A lot of work has been put into the co-op. Lead Designer Colin Munson says “Eight players is that sweet team size. It’s enough so that you pretty much know the people on your team but it’s big enough to let new players in.” The co-op campaign will focus on teamwork, with the game testing players ability to work together. “The initial bridge attack forces players to deal with danger from multiple angles. The Titans meanswhile require the squad to divide and conquer, as these behomoths can easily take out an entire squad with one hit from a rocket cannon.”

The co-op mode also allows players to choose a character class.   These are soldier, medic and special ops trooper.  As you progress through the game you'll gain XP, and then can level up that character with new weapons and abilities, much like Call of Duty 4's multiplayer.

There's also a video up on ps3.qj.net with Insominiac President Ted Price.

Resistance Fall of Man 2 features 8 Player Co-OpJanuary 21st, 2008 at 3:53 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

What's better than 2 player Co-Op?  4 Player Co-Op.  What's better than 4 Player Co-Op?  8 Players.  And that's exactly how many friends you'll be able to play with in the upcoming Resistance: Fall of Man sequel on the Playstation 3.

Evil Avatar has the scoop.

  • 8 player, story-driven online co-op
  • Single player campaign is different from co-op campaign
  • 60 player online PvP
  • Classes for online: Heavy, Special Ops, Medic
  • More vehicles, including The Chameleon, a Stalker with full cloak
  • Fall 2008 release
