After Delays and "Troubled Development," Scalebound is Cancelled

Without much in the way of explanation or reasoning behind the decision, Microsoft quietly announced yesterday that the four player co-op action title, Scalebound, was cancelled. While the game was shown off at last year's E3, it sounds like delays in development and other issues lead to the publisher and developer Platinum Games parting ways.

And yes, he's got plenty of weak points.

[E3 2016] Scalebound Gets Crabby In 2017

We now live in a world where "White Haired 20-Something Punk Guy Battles Colossal Monsters and Cracks Wise Far, Far Too Much" is officially a genre. With Scalebound's new trailer at Microsoft's conference this year, the WH2SPGBCMCWFFTM ropes four player co-op into the fold at long last. It also made me realize there is a very thin line between having a chatty main character and having a main character who just seems annoyed to be there.

Looks like your inner dragon will simply have to bide its time.

Scalebound Has Been Delayed Into 2017

Alas, ye poor souls.  You who thought that 2016 would be a year filled with dragons, taming, and any combination therein will have to focus your energies elsewhere.  I know, I know.  It's disappointing.  I, too, was hopeful for the chance to explore a soon-to-be-burning countryside with a few pals, but it's looking like PlatinumGames, the folks working on Xbox One-exclusive Scalebound, don't feel quite comfortable with pushing the game out this year.

One part dragon, one part wise-cracking white haired guy.

Sink Your Teeth Into Scalebound's Gameplay Overview

Hideki Kamiya isn't necessarily a name synonymous with co-op. The longtime game director is mostly known for fast-paced action games where a single instant can mean pulling off the sweetest 37-hit combo of all time, or getting knocked into a wall and then pounded into mush like a loser. The revelation of his newest game, Scalebound having a four player co-op mode where you team up to wreck havoc on colossal monsters was a bit of a shocker, especially since it gave off a very distinct Monster Hunter vibe.
