If you are a fan of cooperative games (and you should be, you are visiting Co-Optimus), then chances are you have heard about Guardian Heroes HD. Originally released for the Sega Saturn, Guardian Heroes HD was the remixed version of the Treasure classic. The game is a unique and timeless beat em' up that has stood as a solid game to this day. It is a golden standard by which to measure other games in the genre. This has as much to do with the amazing graphics, music, and animations as it has to do with the underlying game mechanics. This is a thinking man's brawler, particularly on hard mode. It features experience and stat point distribution which can come into play in a large way. Best of all, it sports some very fine cooperative play both online and locally.

Guardian Heroes HD was worth the price of admission when it was first released for the XBLA. Now, the game is seeing a permanent price drop to 400 MSP, or simply $4.99. For the amount of raw content available in the game at that price, picking it up is a no-brainer. Treat yourself to a treasure today and grab Guardian Heroes HD.

There is a bit of a problem regarding save data for Aliens: Colonial Marines. The problem in question is a nasty bug that is completely wiping out save files for the Xbox 360 version of the game. Sega recognizes that a "small number of users" are experiencing the bug, which is wiping out their save data and resetting their progress.

According to Polygon, the infestation is quarantined to the Xbox 360. It may also be due to the optional install data for the game that would normally decrease loading times. Sega stated regarding the issue:

One week from now, gamers will be able to purchase Sega and Double Fine’s latest title, The Cave, through online stores. It might not be the biggest title this year, but it should pack quite the adventure for co-op players out there.

Retro’s seem to be all the rage these days, as we have recently discovered that the cult video game series, ToeJam and Earl will be arriving on XBLA and PSN in their crazy adventures of ToeJam and Earl and ToeJam and Earl in Panic on Funkotron.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any better for Phantasy Star Online 2’s future, Sega surprises us even further, announcing that we’ll be able to take the game with us on the go in more ways than one.

The SEGA Genesis was a great system for co-op gamers and SEGA has done a great job in keeping the accessiblity to its titles available.  Whether it's PC, XBLA, PSN or even iOS - there always seems to be a way to download a copy of a classic Genesis game.

Today Amazon is offering 48 Genesis games, bundled together for the PC, for just $7.49.  The normal price of this pack is $70.  You'll have access to the likes of Golden Axe, Toe Jam and Earl, and Streets of Rage along with many, many others.  Here's the full list with the co-op titles linked.

We all like having our favorite games on us when we are on the go, but what if I told you can take a game you play on your TV and pick up right where you left off on your phone? Well, Sonic 4: Episode II will now feature this convenient synchronizing capability come release!

Earlier today, SEGA uploaded a special cutscene from their newest Third-Person Shooter title, Binary Domain, showcasing an extended dialogue and a few, gruesome twists.

Anyone who owned a Sega Saturn should be excited about Sega’s upcoming HD re-release of Guardian Heroes. And people who didn’t own a Saturn due either to being born too late or making poor life decisions will soon be excited too – all you need to do is watch the new trailer!

SEGA is having a sale this week no Xbox Live Arcade with their entire lineup of games discounted up to 50% off the normal price.  The sale runs today through April 25th and features no less than 18 SEGA games discounted.  It's pretty hard to pass up something like Streets of Rage 2 or Golden Axe for only $3.

Other co-op titles include:  Altered Beast, Gunstar Heroes, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.  Most titles feature both local and online co-op play. 

We promised you guys a preview of Conduit 2 from the SEGA vs. New York City event, and now we can finally deliver! The developers shared information about gameplay tweaks, new environments, new weapons, and finally some information about the co-op mode!

SEGA's Genesis is one of the most beloved consoles in gaming history.  Many a gamer became a fan of co-op due to the Genesis' strong library of cooperative titles.  Now, via the power of Steam, several co-op classics are available with the click of a mouse.  The SEGA Genesis Classics Pack is available for PC gamers, and includes such co-op heavyweights as Golden Axe and Altered Beast.  There were even a few co-op games I'd never heard of: Gain Ground and Crack Down.  (Yes, Crack Down; we're just as surprised as you are!)  Each title will set you back a mere $2.99; as of yet, there is no discount for buying the whole package.  I know I'll be checking out Crack Down to determine if it's worthy to be called a Co-Op Classic...

Holy Oligochaetas!  It appears as if the HD remake of one of the greatest Sega Genesis platformers, that's Earthworm Jim,  will not only be getting spiffy updated graphics (shown above) but it will be adding a four player co-op mode!  The game was delayed from a 2009 release in order to add the co-op mode in.

This at first started as a rumor, thanks to some leaked achievements that had multiplayer text attached, but has since been confirmed by an interview on the website 8th-Circuit.com with the game's developer.  According to the interview, co-op isn't the only thing added, with new levels, enemies and other goodies to be experienced by a whole new generation of dirt lovers.  Hopefully we don't need to cut Jim into four pieces to enable this co-op mode.

Color us very excited for this one, we'll have more info on Earthworm Jim HD soon - it's planned for XBLA and PSN release this summer.  

News as good as this takes AGES. Having seemingly dropped out of the console race with the Dreamcast, SEGA have actually been producing several one off pre-packaged consoles that contain many of their classic games. Their latest effort in this range is far more exciting, not only will the new console called SEGA Zone have classic co-op games included (such as Golden Axe), but will also have motion controls.
