Soul Sacrifice will receive it's second update of free DLC next week. On June 11th the Dwarf and Ogre Archfiends will be added to the Librom, along with eight new missions, or pacts. If it's anything like last week's "Headless Knight and Starved Citizenry" DLC you can expect two discovery pacts and six battle pacts.

The new content's battle pacts will most likely feature two introductory missions for mid level players, two tougher missions for advanced players, a Gemini level showcasing both new bosses, and a 10 star battle for some proper essence farming. I have no idea if this is what we'll actually get, but that's what the last free update included, and it seems like a good formula. Why change it?

Soul Sacrifice Headless Knight and Starved Citizenry DLC ImpressionsAndrew Gaskill

Free DLC is kind of like sex; even when it's bad, it's good. The new Soul Sacrifice DLC isn't bad. It's just brief. So the sex analogy still applies. The "Headless Knight and Starved Citizenry" pack features two new bosses, eight new missions (sort of), SNS (That's social network support. I had to look it up. I'm old. I admit it.) and a few other minor, but useful updates. There's also a new Black Rite, "Berserker," which can be downloaded separately. It's also free.

First of all, if you're a fan of the game and have somehow not  downloaded this content, do so now. There are two new Archfiends to farm for some sweet new sigils and essences, as well as new boss spells. If you're not a fan and you have no idea what I'm talking about, skip this post. There's nothing for you here. Maybe I'll make a penis joke for you later. Probably not.

Soul Sacrifice Free DLC Dates, Details, And VideosAndrew Gaskill

You may have seen some info on the free Soul Sacrifice DLC heading our way later this month. You may have even noticed the poster below in your local Gamestop. It's true: several new bosses have been confirmed as free DLC with eight of them having been identified.  I would have mentioned something earlier, but I've been playing the game so much I forgot to write about it. This is easily my pick up and play guilty pleasure of the year (so far). If you haven't been keeping up with your Avalon Pacts, check out the image below and get an eyeful of the grotesque monsters soon to be marked for extermination.

Soul Sacrifice Co-Op FAQTally Callahan

Soul Sacrifice is often compared to the Monster Hunter games for its party-based, monster-killing gameplay. Unsurprisingly, there are some big differences, and with its unique save-or-sacrifice mechanic as well as both online and Ad Hoc co-op, some questions about the co-op are sure to arise. We try to answer some of the FAQs in our Soul Sacrifice Co-Op FAQ.

This Week in Co-Op: Soul Sacrifice with RandomsAndrew Gaskill

This week in co-op I play the Soul Sacrifice demo with random players. Here we go.

I join a multiplayer lobby. In the demo we have the choice of four different cooperative levels: a forest full of lesser goblins and orcs, a desert haunted by possessed armor that takes the shape of a walking Jack-O’-Lantern, a windy field stalked by a bloated Harpy, and a ruined town dominated by a powerful Cerberus. The levels are quite small, they’re more like battle arenas. Some can be completed in minutes, others may take a half an hour, especially if your team isn’t working together. I’m ready for anything.

Soul Sacrifice Demo ImpressionsAndrew Gaskill

I was talking to Nick the other day and I let it slip that I had put around 25 hours into the Soul Sacrifice demo. And I don’t mean the Japanese version that came out months ago. Somehow, between playing and writing about all the games I’m supposed to be playing and writing about - and doing my part in the benevolent dictatorship my wife and I hold over a household full of pugs and children- I managed to play the Soul Sacrifice demo for an entire day (not in one sitting). It’s been out for less than a week. Embarassing, I know.

He suggested I write up some impressions, and I told him I don’t really have the time, because I’m too busy Grave Clodding the Cerberus in the nuts.

Soul Sacrifice Demo Drops Today, Save Data Carries Over to Full GameAndrew Gaskill

The Soul Sacrifice demo hits the PlayStation Store later today. Prepare to tear yourself apart in order to bring ruin to your enemies. The dark fantasy action RPG will force players to sacrifice themselves (and their co-op partners) to unlock powerful magic. Just look at that header image. I'm not an expert on spell casting, but I think I'd prefer a magical staff or a wand over this particular technique. To each their own.

The demo itself is quite long. I put a few hours into the Japanese version, and I would have played even more, if I had any idea what was going on. Keiji Inafune and Comcept really want to get their hooks in you:

Soul Sacrifice Demo Coming April 16thAndrew Gaskill

The long awaited North American demo for Soul Sacrifice will finally hit the PlayStation Network next week. The four player cooperative action RPG features a brutal spell casting system where characters can sacrifice objects, parts of their bodies, and even their lives, in exchange for powerful magic. You can sprout blades from your arms, engulf yourself in flames, and even spray your own blood at your enemies. Delightful!

The following video features an interview with game designer Keiji Inafune. He explains some of the game mechanics and monster origins. He also mentions "sacrifice" and "cost." A lot. There's also plenty of sweet gameplay footage.

Soul Sacrifice Live Action Trailer, Content Update Hits JapanAndrew Gaskill

Soul Sacrifice is a little over a month a way, and I can honestly say I'm pumped for this one. The PlayStation Vita exclusive will allow players to make gruesome sacrifices in order to cast powerful spells. It also supports four player local or online co-op, so you can sacrifice and be sacrificed by your friends, as well. Neat!

The game came out in Japan earlier this month, and it appears to be doing well, both critically and commercially.  You can even try the demo yourself if you have a Japanese PlayStation Network profile. If you're the kind of person who needs a live action demonstration before you buy a product, I've got you covered. The Soul Sacrifice live action trailer is here, and it's satisfyingly ridiculous.

Soul Sacrifice Video Features Four Minutes of Savage Spell CastingAndrew Gaskill

Soul Sacrifice looms ever closer, now just a few short months away. I finally got my hands on the Japanese language demo and took it for a spin. Comcept's third person foray into spell casting fueled by self mutilation is a wild ride. Once again I was instantly reminded that I still can't read Japanese. You think I'd get on that. Lucky for me, my badass menu navigation skills are universal. I battled my way through the menus until I got to the real meat of the game. If you have an extra Vita memory card and a Japanes PSN account I highly recommend checking it out.

The Soul Sacrifice home site dropped this four minute gameplay video the other day. If your Japanese is as poor as mine, you won't be able to follow the finer details, but you'll get the idea. Players roam a vibrant fantasy world, constantly powering up their right hands with god-like power in order to clobber the living hell out of grotesque monsters. Save or sacrifice your foes (and friends) and reap the rewards. Throw in some four player online or local ad-hoc co-op, along with some nice customization options, and you have my attention.

New Soul Sacrifice Trailer Shows Off GameplayTally Callahan

Soul Sacrifice, the game where you can hurt you friends - but in a cooperative way! - is a pretty highly anticipated Playstation Vita game this year. With a unique premise (you can either choose to save or sacrifice defeated enemies or even allies), plenty of mythological lore, and a dark, gritty feeling to it, it's not difficult to see why many Vita owners are looking forward to this 4-player co-operative title.

Soul Sacrifice: Save or Sacrifice? Andrew Gaskill

More details have been revealed for the dark fantasy PlayStation Vita exclusive, Soul Sacrifice. The four player cooperative title features a system that will allow players to save or sacrifice defeated enemies as well as critically wounded co-op partners. Once you've beaten an enemy you will be given the choice of saving the creature's soul, or sacrificing it for your own gain. There will be consequences.

As you can see in the screen captured above, saving the Rat's Berserk soul will reward the player with life. Sacrificing the soul will give the player more magic, but also cost the player a small amount of health. Your decisions will craft your character, allowing you to focus on offense or defense, or a mix of the two. Saving souls will increase your defense and healing abilities over time, while sacrificing creatures will increase your magical power. I can already tell I'll be making a glass cannon.
