Co-Op Casual Friday: Space Invaders ExtremeJune 26th, 2009 at 8:45 PM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

My, how things have changed since the original Space Invaders debuted more than thirty years ago!  Looking back, the game seems so simple, it's hard to believe it was a national obsession.  Move your ship beneath aliens, push the fire button, repeat, that's all there is to it.  When Space Invaders Extreme was released on Xbox Live Arcade, I knew I had to get it for nothing more than nostalgic purposes.  I was curious, too, at how my kids would react to it.  In this era of open world gameplay, realistic 3D graphics, and cinematic storytelling, would young gamers get bored too quickly?

Space Invaders Extreme DLC Hits Today, Add Classic ModeJune 17th, 2009 at 8:06 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

We rather enjoyed Space Invaders Extreme on the Xbox Live Arcade, especially the four player cooperative mode.  It's oddly satisfying blasting those 8-bit baddies into pixelated pieces to the thumping soundtrack of techno.

We've just gotten word that a brand new pack of content is set to hit the Xbox Live Marketplace today, and with it comes more co-op action.   There will be three new stages, new enemies, and new bosses. Additionally, the expansion pack will contain two emulators of the original black-and-white Space Invaders and 8-bit color Space Invaders 2

Kind of a bummer we need to pay for the classic games, but at least you can get them now.

Space Invaders Extreme Co-Op InterviewMay 04th, 2009 at 11:28 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Space Invaders Extreme hits the Xbox Live Arcade this week, and with it a brand new cooperative gameplay mode. We sat down with Backbone Entertainment Senior Artist Arvin Bautista, a 10 year veteran of the industry with co-op titles like 1942: Joint Strike and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 under his belt, to talk about Space Invaders Extreme and the brand new cooperative modes.

Space Invaders Extreme Co-Op Screens and Video are Invading You...ExtremelyApril 16th, 2009 at 8:42 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

If you were lucky enough to get your hands on Space Invaders Extreme for the PSP or Nintendo DS you know the game is a worthy remake of the classic title.  Much like the great Pac-Man Championship Edition, Space Invaders Extreme takes a classic game and adds some modern flair to it without removing what made the original so great.

The next version of Space Invaders Extreme is set to hit Xbox Live this spring, and with it comes a new four player co-op mode for online and offline play.  We've got a set of fresh screen shots and video of the new mode in action.  It won't get much better than feeling the funky beats with your friends as you blast away those 8-bit alien baddies.  There's more color and trippy action than a kaleidescope in a clown car.

Space Invaders Extreme will also feature some competitive score based multiplayer modes which are featured in the video as well, but really, who cares about that?  Pe-shaw!  Certainly not us.

New Space Invaders Extreme Screens and Trailer are...Extreme!March 25th, 2009 at 2:46 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Taito has released a handful of new screenshots of the four player co-op Xbox Live Arcade game, Space Invaders Extreme.  While the screens only show off the game's single player mode, you can get an idea of just how slick looking the game is, compared to it's portable little brother on the PSP and DS.

Along with the screens, Taito has released a video for GDC 09 showing off some gameplay.  It's easy to see how trance like the game is with the thumpin beats and sound effects blasting out the melody.  This ain't your Father's Space Invaders anymore!

Space Invaders Extreme Coming to XBLA With 4 Player Co-OpOctober 09th, 2008 at 9:19 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

We're not sure if the 4 player co-op mode is what makes this game extreme, but we do know we are extremely excited about this classic remake.  If you played the game on the PSP or DS then you know this game is a great remix of Space Invaders with a splash of a game like Lumines.  Pulsating visuals with a thumping beat make blasting pixelated aliens an absolute joy.  Add in giant boss battles and that's Space Invaders Extreme.

Now imagine all that on a 52" screen with 5.1 surround sound.  Yes please!

The co-op mode supports up to 4 players in which they tackles the arcade levels together with a single pool of lives.  Keep an eye out of this title in early 2009.  And keep an eye on the handful of screenshots of the game after the read more link.
