Super Stardust HD was one of my favorite titles on the PlayStation 3, it was easily the PlayStation equivelent of the Xbox's Geometry Wars. Its developer Housemarque have been making solid twin stick shooters for Sony, including the excellent Dead Nation. Now the PlayStation 4 will get a title from the Finnish developer called RESOGUN and it looks like a spiritual successor to SSHD.
When things go awry, it seems like the customer service of most companies kicks in to overdrive and they give out some freebies. Well, in case you’re thinking you may miss out on whatever Sony is cooking up to begin to make up for the PSN outage - here’s a past and present of what we’ve seen.
Now that the PlayStation Network is up and churning along nicely for most of the world - Sony has announced its "Welcome Back" program. The program is designed to get back in the good graces of gamers who were without PSN for 3 weeks and who may have possibly had their personal information gleaned from Sony's servers.
Sure the game is over a year old, but that doesn't mean PlayStation 3 owners should miss out on this frantic and beautiful shooter. It's a dash of Geometry Wars and a dash of Asteroids for the modern age. Of course we wouldn't talk about it if it wasn't for co-op...
Super Stardust HD is one of the premiere titles available on the Playstation Network. Take the classic Asteroids gameplay from days of yore, add in genre staples like power ups and different weapons, and throw it all in a gorgeous high definition package, and you have SSHD in a nutshell. However, for fans of co-op, there has been a nagging problem about the game: both players had to remain on the same screen, thus limiting their effectiveness. The most recent content for the game, aptly titled the Team Expansion, addresses this problem. Split-screen co-op is now supported. From IGN's review:
