Although normally devoted to competitive multiplayer modes, this weekend's The Lab - an experimental custom playlist that is featured every other weekend - ramps up the difficulty of two Uncharted 2's Co-Op Arena modes.
Aptly named "Co-Op Crushing", jumping into select Co-Op Arenas will grant you and your partners 20% less health than usual. The Lab playlist includes game type Gold Rush on maps The Plaza and The Village, and game type Survival on The Lost City map. Check it out now - it's live until Monday at 10:00 Pacific Time.

We were all surprised to see a new piece of co-op content coming to Uncharted 2, especially after so many denials it would ever happen. Yet, Siege Mode is upon us, and Co-Optimus sat down with Naughty Dog to get the dirt on co-op gaming in Nathan Drake's world, and what we might see next.

Despite a new co-op mode "not being likely" we got information about a new co-op mode coming to Uncharted 2 via a leak. Today we have the official announcement and screens straight from Sony and Naughty Dog that unveil the next piece of content to be released on April 22nd.
The new co-op mode is called Siege, which sounds like a cross between a territories style match and a survival mode like Gears of War 2's Horde mode. The mode has players holding a territory on the map while surviving waves of enemies. During the course of a match the territories will shift between locations, forcing players to work together to move and work together to live. Expect the action to be incredibly fast paced and hectic.

BAFTA have announced the nominations for their 2010 Video Game Awards. Contrary to popular belief, BAFTA does not stand for Badgers Are Fairly Tense Anglers, but British Academy of Film and Television Art. The BAFTAs are considered the UK equivalent of the American Oscars. Since 2005 they have given out gongs to video games and have become one of the most prestigious awards for the industry. Click on Read More to find out which co-op games have been nominated.

Yes, that's a Helghast. Yes, that's Rico. No, Killzone 2 is still not getting co-op.
Yesterday I joked that the Uncharted series hadn't yet seen a PSP port, and that surely an announcement was forthcoming. Scott from In Game Chat and Mike were quick to call me out, but despite our clowning around Naughty Dog is hard at work on new material for Uncharted fans.
According to Siliconera.com, three chunks of downloadable content are coming to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the first one completely free and landing next week. They entail new multiplayer skins from the first Uncharted and other popular Sony franchises - including Killzone 2, inFamous, and Resistance 2 - and the third bringing a to-be-named "multiplayer cooperative mode" in April. We've got the DLC schedule and some images of the skins right here for ya!

In a recent interview with G4TV, Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells talked a bit about the game's cooperative modes, and the possibility for adding content to them. Uncharted 2's co-op is broken down into three modes: Objective, Gold Rush and Survival.
The objective mode is a bit like playing pieces of the single player game, except the environments require another person or two to navigate. It's a bit more like a traditional co-op experience. This is what Evan had to say in regards to more content like that.

As 2009 wraps up, we look back at what an incredible year we had for co-op gaming. It started with Resident Evil 5 and ended with Left 4 Dead 2. In between? 150 co-op titles were released for a total of 249 total co-op games across all platforms in 2009.
The G4TV crew discusses the rise of co-op gaming and some of the surprises along the way. While we may not agree with them (really, you guys thought RE5 was bad?) - it's good to see some more media exposure for the genre of gaming we love so much.

Remember when Borderlands was sent out to die? Yeah...didn't happen. The game sold an impressive 400k copies in October on the Xbox 360 alone placing it third on the sales chart behind Wii Fit Plus and Uncharted 2. These sales numbers come from the monthly NPD stats, which report sales numbers for North America.
Halo 3: ODST took the number 6 spot, selling an additional 271k, bringing the two month total for North America close to 2 million.
