I've not played any Far Cry 5, but everything I've seen/read/heard of the game basically points me to "play it in co-op and have some dumb fun," which works for me. Mike and Nick do their best to show off some of that by luring one another to various vehicles before blowing them up, using a gravity gun to juggle bears, and jumping out of planes mid-flight and leaving the other person behind in the passenger seat. Honestly, that seems like the best way to play it, considering your co-op buddy doesn't earn of the story progression by playing the game with you.

Strange Brigade Coming to PC and Consoles This AugustJason Love

Everything we've seen of the game thus far has largely focused around the gameplay aspects and how the core mechanics work (i.e., round-based waves). The latest trailer shifts to the story and what our band of intrepid explorers is up against; namely, an undead queen with a chip on her shoulder (not to mention some bandages). I'm certainly intrigued to see how all the promised puzzle-solving, looting, and shooting comes together.

Battlezone: Gold Edition will also include all content/DLC that's ever been put out for the game since its release two years ago. As Rebellion stated in the announcement, "That's all the tank skins, bobbleheads, and horns, as well as the Classic Mode based on the original, iconic 80s arcade cabinet." Nick reviewed the game when it first came out on the PlayStation 4 and while he had a few gripes with the VR experience, he absolutely enjoyed the co-op aspects.

Now before you go getting too excited, this new mode is wave-based/survival in nature. What sets "Sanctuary Onsalught" apart from the "Defense" or "Survival" missions is the way you progress to the next wave. First off, there's a timer that counts down until a portal will appear that then takes you to the next round/wave. So, you'll have to survive against an onslaught of enemies for that length of time. However, the second mechanic dictates whether or not a portal appears at all. Right below that countdown timer, there's a "Void Stability" meter that depletes over time. If it reaches 0, your run is over. To keep that meter from depleting and to fill it back up, you'll have to kill enough enemies and find some random pick-ups that are scattered about each area. The further you progress, the harder things get, but the better your rewards will be as well. If you want to get the new Khora Warframe, then you'll have to run this mode a few times in order to get all the necessary blueprints.

The announcement of this new "Siege" event came via the Capcom Unity Blog yesterday and along with the event there will be a content update (full notes here). Based on the language in the announcement, it doesn't seem like you'll be able to join in on this special hunt via the usual "Respond to SOS Flare." Instead, you'll either need to gather up all 16 members of your Squad at one time, or join specific Kulve Taroth sessions. Hunters are then divided up into four groups comprised of four hunters each, and while each hunting party will act independently in their own "instance" of the fight, all of the damage/investigation/part-breaking that's done to Kulve is pooled together across all of the hunting parties and all parties will get credit.

The new "Escape" mode allows up to four players to team up online to "beat the various challenges and defeat AI-controlled in your quest to escape from the depths of the mysterious pyramid in the heart of Siberia." Based on the gameplay video they released, it looks like you'll mainly be facing off against human "ghouls" as you make your way through different zones within the pyramid. It's a little less Left 4 Dead and a little more Halo, in a way.

The quick backstory to "Retribution" is Blackwatch, the covert ops (and plausibly deniable) portion of the Overwatch peacekeeping group, was tasked with a mission in Venice, Italy eight years prior to the events of the current game. Things go bad (shootout in the streets ala "Heat" bad) and the team, comprised of Genji, McCree, Moira, and Gabriel Reyes (who later becomes "Reaper"), have to fight their way through Talon forces to get to an extraction point.

In "The Survivors," your beloved King has eaten something "a bit strange" and is now straight off his gourd. Princess Lily is kidnapped (for the third time) and the King announces his intention to save the Princess alone. Not exactly consistent behavior.

The game originally debuted on PC back in October 2014. You can read my full review here, but the quick summary: I really enjoyed it. The combo/"Fatality" mechanic introduced an interesting way to approach combat - as you had to juggle a little bit of risk/reward for clearing enemies vs getting the most money (used to revive and buy upgrades) possible - and the "evolving" bosses added another layer of strategy for how you chose to tackle, and in what order, each level. If you're a beat-em-up fan, I think it's definitely worth checking out, especially on the Switch where the "play anywhere" nature means there's always a couch (or bench, or chairs + table) nearby.

While this news is exciting for PS4 owners, players in the Xbox One and PC audience have reason to be excited too with the recent release of the "European Assault" DLC on PC, and coming soon to Xbox. As stated above, the Limited Edition includes future updates as well as the "European Assault" DLC. The official trailer for the DLC can be found below.

To be fair, there are some good ideas and "hooks" in SCALPERS. The combat can get hectic at times and the lines, circles, etc. that indicate where and when enemies will attack provide you with a clear idea of where to position yourself in the midst of a firefight. There's also a kind of progression system for the four playable characters as well as the different guns and special abilities. These upgrades are all based on completing certain tasks, such as beating a boss on a particular difficulty level, but they can also be purchased through "loot boxes" that you can buy using in-game currency (there's no way to buy them otherwise, i.e., no microtransactions). While the progression mechanics provide you and your buddies with a reason to keep coming back... there's a lingering question if you really want to.

As a rogue-lite, top-down shooter, SYNTHETIK's core game loop is progressing as far as you can, level by level, until you either beat the final boss or get overwhelmed by enemy forces. There is a mix of temporary and permanent upgrades to acquire as you play, and finding new weapons lets you use them for the duration of your current run as well as making it possible for them to drop randomly in future runs. In the actual minute-to-minute gameplay, you have an on-screen reticle that shows the general area where your bullets will go and that area is affected by things like moving your character around, recoil, and getting hit by enemy fire. To put that final touch on things, in the midst of dodging bullets, rockets, and lasers while also maintaining your aim, you have to manually eject your current magazine and actively reload the next one. Oh, and your gun can jam on occasion. It's a lot, but it's all executed very well.
