Serious Sam HD Out Next WeekNovember 20th, 2009 at 8:42 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

We finally have a release date for Serious Sam HD, or at least, a release date for the PC version.  Expect to kick names and take ass on November 24th with up to 15 of your friends in co-op.  This was announced in an exclusive trailer posted on Eurogamer's website.

You can read our short hands on preview with the game from PAX 09.  We came away impressed, and are itching to dive into the chaos with one of the largest and most insane co-op gatherings I've ever witnessed.  There's going to be a lot of exploding harpies.

You can preorder the game right now on Steam for only $18.  There's still no word on whether or not the XBLA version, which contains four player co-op, would be released the following day on November 25th.

Infinity Ward may Add Party Chat Options Back into Modern Warfare 2November 20th, 2009 at 8:03 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Keep the pedal to the floor on those party chat complaints in Modern Warfare 2!  According to Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, they hear you loud and clear on the complaints from the community.  Whether hearing is the same as acting, well that's yet to be seen, but for those of you annoyed by the lack of party chat options in certain multiplayer play lists on the Xbox 360 - scream to the heavens:

"For the love of Soap MacTavish give us our party chat!"

The lack of party chat was done in part to prevent cheaters in different multiplayer game types.  Basically these punks would jump onto the opposing team calling out their teammates positions to their friends on the other team in party chat.  For most of us, we're unaffected by this decision because we're too busy playing Spec-Ops in co-op!

Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition, Upcoming DLC DetailsNovember 19th, 2009 at 11:12 PM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

Resident Evil 5 was an early co-op hit this year.  As you'd expect for a title so popular, quite a bit of extra content is headed your way soon.  The PS3-exclusive "Alternative Edition" is coming soon, and will include all the DLC listed below, plus compatibility with Sony's forthcoming motion controlling doohickey.  (Pretty sure that won't be the final name.)  Xbox 360 owners and those who already own RE5 for PS3 can also download this content.

Borderlands Soundtrack Available December 8thNovember 19th, 2009 at 4:47 PM by Katrina "ShadokatRegn" Pawlowski

After Borderlands blew us away with its release, we haven't been able to get enough of it. Additional content to extend the experience is a wonderful thing, but now we're ready to experience Borderlands at all times. In the car, in your office, at school - wherever, you'll now have the soundtrack to Borderlands available just in time for the holidays.

"The soundtrack features a number of tunes from various composers including Jesper Kyd, Sascha Dikiciyan, Cris Velasco and Raison Varner, Tim Larkin. Unfortunately, the catchy song "Aint No Rest For The Wicked," which was featured in the game's trailer and TV commercials, is not included."

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days Officially AnnouncedNovember 18th, 2009 at 9:26 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

And so after a lot of teasing, we finally get the official announcement.  Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days is under development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC and set to release next year from developer IO Interactive.

The game follows our "heroes" Kane and Lynch through the gritty Shanghai underworld.  Dog Days is said to be inspired by documentary film makers and the user generated era in terms of style.  Perhaps that is why we've seen some interesting perspectives in the teaser videos up to this point.  In fact we've got a new one today called "Bowling for Shanghai" posted below.  We're promised a fresh perspective on intensity and realism.

No other details of the game were given but Niels Jorgenson, IO Interactive's general manager, has stated that feedback from the first game helped shape the sequel.  Lets hope they listened to us when we asked for online co-op play.

Did Inadequate Co-Op Play Doom DJ Hero to Low Sales?November 18th, 2009 at 12:06 PM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

Do Androids Dream of Fake Plastic Turntables?

The sales numbers for DJ Hero are in, and they are disappointing at best.  122,300 copies of the game were sold across all platforms.  That's very low for a music game, especially one that was as heavily promoted as DJ Hero.  Ars Technica attempted to explain the low sales, and fans of co-op will likely appreciate this particular reason:

Rhythm games work best with crowds, and DJ Hero is a solitary experience. That's not a knock against it; playing the game is great fun. It's just hard to share with others, compared to the more popular Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises.

In other words, the lack of a compelling co-op mode may have been a factor in the game's lack of sales.  Music games seem to work best in a party setting, and DJ Hero just doesn't work due to the single-player focus.  Other reasons are listed in the article, but it just goes to show you that co-op is a major selling point for any game, especially one in a genre known for excellent co-op.

The 2009 Video Game Awards will be broadcast Live on December 12th on Spike TV.  While it's usually a fairly entertaining experience to watch, this year there's another reason to tune in - Halo: Reach.

According to Geoff Keighley's twitter account, we'll get the world premiere of Halo: Reach.  No details were given, but given precedence with the show, expect a video trailer.  We'll cross our fingers to get a glimpse of some cooperative action.

LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues Out NowNovember 18th, 2009 at 8:41 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

What may be lost amongst a solid fall season of games is the family friendly title LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure continues.  Out now for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PC - the game supports two player local cooperative play through the whole adventure with drop-in and drop-out play.

The truly unique thing about the title is a cooperative level builder mode much like Little Big Planet provides, except with LEGOs!  Just don't make anything with snakes in it, even LEGO Indy hates snakes!

Lost Planet 2 Pre-Orders get Wesker...Only at GamestopNovember 18th, 2009 at 7:59 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Co-Op gamers should be familiar with Mr Albert Wesker as he was the main villain in Resident Evil 5.  After conquering him in the game you could unlock him as a playable character in Mercenaries mode, and for us, he was a favorite.

So there's good news for those of you looking forward to Lost Planet 2 and its four player co-op mode - Wesker is an exclusive pre-order bonus to Gamestop.  Well it's good news if you like Gamestop, and thankfully it's only a skin.  That's ok right?  Not exactly.

Left 4 Dead 2 Out this Week, Zombies Begin to PanicNovember 16th, 2009 at 8:49 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Despite being on everyone's radar as the most popular enemy in a video game the past year, the zombies are shuddering on their limp legs as Left 4 Dead 2, the sequel to the game that seemed to start the trend, is out on Tuesday, November 17th.

In case you didn't know, Left 4 Dead 2 has four player cooperative play through five campaigns, placing gamers in the role of one of four survivors.  You'll go through an evil carnival, a swamp, New Orleans and other zombie infested locales all the while using new weapons and items to survive the best you can.  Can you say frying pan?  The game is available on the Xbox 360 and PC.
