Yars: Recharged Co-op Review

Atari and AdamVision Studios have spent the last few years producing modern “Recharged” versions of classic Atari games. Yars: Recharged is a new but faithful sequel to Yars’ Revenge, the Atari 2600 shoot ‘em up from 1982. This stylish sequel to Yar's Revenge is almost here.

Atari Announces Yars: Recharged for August, Sequel to Yar's Revenge

Yar's Revenge is a Atari 2600 shoot 'em up that released in 1982 and is still fondly remembered by gamers of the era. During the Xbox 360 days, Atari released a 3D rail shooter which added co-op but reimagined the insect protagonists as human-like characters. 40 years after the first Yar's Revenge (!!!), the series is due for a comeback with Yars Recharged on modern consoles and PC. This one hews closely to the original, with playable space flies, 2D shooting, and the welcome addition of local co-op.

Atari and THQ games stand on the brink

THQ and Atari Games: Which XBLA Games are Reduced or Gone?

Farewell THQ and Atari US, parting is such sweet sorrow.  As these two former giants of the game developing world slip into the eternal night, what will happen to their downloadable games?  If XBLA is any indication; some games will be pulled, some reduced and some not touched at all!  Voltron has been delisted, Yar's Revenge and The Undergarden have been reduced, whilst Warhammer 40K: Kill Team remains untouched.  Confused?  You will be.

Co-Op Release Alert for the Week of 4.11.2011

Looking for a new game to brighten your day? Nothing catching your eye?  The second week of April may not be known for its blockbuster releases, but you can still get your new game on.  This week has a little hack in slash, a little rhythm, and a little tower defense.  Oh yeah, and one of my favorite Atari 2600 games has been remade as an anime-style shooter, but I'm not bitter about it.

New Video for Yar's Revenge Features Bugs, Weapons, and Gameplay Footage

A few months ago we brought you news that Atari is remaking the Atari 2600 classic, Yar's Revenge.  The staff member (hint: it was me) who posted the article was a little distraught over the new look of "Yar."  The main protagonist of the game is no longer a bad-a$$ metallic fly, but is now a half-armored anime girl.  Remember the slow death currently happening to the Japanese game industry?  Can we please stop emulating them? I've seen a lot of half-dressed anime babes in gaming, I cannot say the same for giant metal death flies.
