Earth Defense Force: World Brothers Mixes Voxels with Giant Bugs

Plenty of explosions in two new trailers

The next game in the Earth Defense Force series is going to be a little different. Called Earth Defense Force: World Brothers the game makes uses of voxels instead of polygons to convey its destructive nature. While the game was always over the top, the new style gives it a slightly more kid friendly feel but still B-Movie all the same. The game isn't a change in direction for the series, it's merely a spin-off.

EDF members are struggling in isolated countries around the world.
By rescuing and gathering those members, you can build your own Earth Defense Force team. Each mission is tackled by a 4-member team that players can mix and match between EDF members to maximize each of their abilities to lay waste on their enemies.

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is currently slated to be released in Japan any day now with a Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 release coming state side sometime in Q1.

From the early material it sounds like a big part of the game is going to be collecting actual EDF team members, with over 100 unique characters to unlock. The co-op details haven't been revealed, but we believe we'll see four player couch co-op in tow.

The final trailer for the game certainly has that campy feel.
