If there's one thing that PC gamers and keyboard users in general can agree upon, it's that cleaning keyboards is a pain. Air dusters are expensive and won't remove some of the debris, plus, the longer you use the duster, the more it feels like the can is going to explode. Am I the only one who worries about that? The can gets so cold, dude! Well, the folks at FurZapper have an alternative that can clean keyboards and clothing alike: LintZapper.
The product comes in a pocket-sized green package that can be opened and closed like a pack of gum. Inside are 40 rectangular lint sheets measuring 4 x 3 inches each. You just peel one off and use it whenever you've got some mess to remove. It's the same idea as a lint roller but without the bulky roller that picks up dirty stuff between uses. Here, the lint sheets are covered between uses, so they always start out clean.
The manufacturer suggested that the LintZapper could be used to clean out keyboards, so that's what I tried. Note that LintZapper sheets are adhesive, but they don't have any magnetic properties that pull dirt up from a distance. Thus, rubbing a sheet across the keys of the keyboard won't pick up very much. Hairs and dirt mostly fall beneath and between those keys, after all. So, to get at a lot of the keyboard mess, you have to remove the keys first. When I pulled the keys up and applied the LintZapper sheet to the surface below, it picked up a ton of junk. I should really clean my keyboard more often!
On top of the potential for cleaning keyboards, computer fans, and other devices that pick up dust and hairs, LintZapper can, of course, be used to remove lint and other things from clothing. The sheets work perfectly for the task since they're the same basic sheets you'd find on a lint roller, just not rolled up. You don't want to look all linty during a local co-op date with your sweetheart, do you?
LintZapper won't completely replace the need for air dusters since compressed air can reach some places that small adhesive sheets can't. But the ability to use the same product to clean a keyboard or a shirt is pretty cool, and the packaging here is downright convenient.
The notable downside to LintZapper is its lack of retail availability. The product has to be directly ordered from the FurZapper website or Amazon. FurZapper doesn't offer Prime shipping on the item, so it takes an extra click or two to add the item to your Amazon cart. A three-pack of 40-sheet LintZappers (120 sheets in total) ends up costing about $11 shipped at the time of this writing.
