Red Dead Redemption gets Co-Op Play in Free Roam Mode

Looks like I'm your huckleberry.  I called it last week when we thought Red Dead Redemption would have co-op, and today comes confirmation from Rockstar Games that the game's Free Roam multiplayer mode features several co-op aspects.

Free Roam allows sixteen players to enter into the world of Red Dead Redemption at a time, with up to 8 players forming a posse together.  These posses can then go on to play a number of game modes like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch as well as continue on in free roam.

Danger lurks around every corner of this chaotic open world in the form of gangs, pesky lawmen, wild animals, and even other posses. Organized games and challenges are also available in addition to the wide-open wilderness. Level up characters with experience points to unlock new weapons, mounts, characters, and challenges.

A Rockstar rep told us that your posse will face off against questionable characters as well as computer controlled gangs.  There's also challenges to complete with your posse called actuaries.

Finally there's a survival mode for your posse where you'll face off against waves of vicious animals hell bent on eating you and your gang for lunch.

All of this earns you experience to unlock goodies to share with your posse.  After the positive impressions of the game Jason came away with at PAX East, and now news of co-op, this game is now firmly in the must buy column this may.

Here's the official trailer for Free Roam.
