Dead Space 3 Gets Kinect Voice Commands, New Trailer Focuses On Co-Op

Better with Kinect?

Dead Space 3 is less than two months away. The space horror franchise will feature a cooperative campaign, a first for the series. Today we found out the game will also be compatible with the Xbox 360's Kinect peripheral. Don't worry. You won't be forced to defend yourself from Necromorphs by flailing around like a maniac. Dead Space 3 will use the Kinect's microphone for simple voice commands such as, "Find partner, Fire stasis!" and "Attack enemy!"

According to the press release the Kinect sensor "will make it easier for co-op partners to give each other health or ammo, find objectives, revive one another and more." I don't know how much use I'll get out of my Kinect if I have a living, breathing human co-op partner in voice chat. It sounds like a wonderful way to annoy the heck out of each other. Who knows? It may be awesome. I won't knock it until I try it.

We also have a new video for you today. This video features single player and co-op action on the frozen planet of Tau Volantis. I'm getting a serious Lost Planet vibe from some of these scenes. The campaign will feature drop-in/drop out co-op, and as you will see in the video, there's some seriously weird stuff going on with John Carver. If you play the game cooperatively you can expect to "experience additional story details, side missions and gameplay mechanics."

Dead Space 3 supports two player online co-op. It will be available on February 5 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
