Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Release Dates Announced

Brains, please.

Load up your pea shooters and polish up the Bonk Choy, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is heading to Xbox One and Xbox 360 in early 2014. PopCap recently announced the game will hit both consoles on February 18, 2014 in North America and February 20 in Europe, complete with its lovely online competitive and cooperative features.

Taking characters from the original Plants vs. Zombies game, Garden Warfare is pretty much what you would expect would happen if a big studio like EA got a hold of PvZ materials and made an original game. Instead of a cute defense title, it's a cute/gritty third person shooter with plant-based explosions and zombies swarming the gates. It's going to incorporate EA's new best friend the free-to-play model, meaning there will be lots of paid DLC and upgrades to get your hands on in the future.

The really good news is that Garden Warfare is heavy on multiplayer features, featuring 24 player online battles and team-based combat that pits four humans against CPU-controlled zombies. Single player mode is non-existent in Garden Warfare, so you'd better get ready to make some friends if you'd rather your brains not be eaten.

The Xbox One version of Garden Warfare includes two extra modes: local co-op with split screen play and Boss Mode. The former is pretty self explanatory, while Boss Mode employs Kinect to give another player a bird's eye view of the battlefield to help out with health drops and revives. This is one reason why the Xbox One version retails for $10 more than the 360 release. The PC port is still scheduled, but PopCap only said "it will be available at a later date".
