Enjoy Gears of War 4 in 4k

Provided you have a monitor that supports that resolution

At Gamescom last week, Microsoft unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Gears of War 4 that shows off the game running in 4k. There doesn't appear to be any story spoilers in this gameplay footage, just a big beefy dude shooting big beefy creatures.

We've embedded the trailer here in the post to watch, but keep in mind, it's limited in what it can display. Click through to YouTube and change the settings to 4k if you want to watch it in the higher resolution.

The footage actually shows off one of the interesting issues with gaming these days. As I alluded to in the subline, you'll only be able to get the full effect of the higher resolution if your monitor (or whatever you're viewing this on) supports 4k. If you're watching on anything that only goes up to 1080p, then that's the max you'll be able to see it in.

This same idea extends to the game itself. HDR and 4k and all the other buzz words getting tossed around these days do make games look better, but it's worth remembering that it's not just about the console or graphics card in your PC. You need a TV or monitor that supports all of these things as well to take advantage of it.
