Endure the Summer Heat With Friends With July's Games With Gold

Assault Android Cactus, Death Squared, and Splinter Cell Conviction

July... Of all the months in the calendar year, this one has the distinction of being my least favorite. Mainly due to the fact that the unbearable heat (which is my natural nemesis) makes life feel questionable. But, put that aside, and I guess it's ok. If your idea of a perfect July is being indoors with air conditioning and video games with friends, then good news! July's Games with Gold includes three co-op titles: Assault Android CactusDeath Squared, and Splinter Cell Conviction (360, backwards compatible).

For me, the star player in that line-up is Assault Android Cactus. In the realm of twin-stick shooters, it is absolutely a stand-out title. It is friendly enough that players of all familiarity levels can hop in and have fun, but there is such an intriguing depth. Seriously, look up some competitive/high score play to see just how crazy it can get. So if you like twin-stick shooters and want a great couch co-op game, definitely pick up Assault Android Cactus.

As for the other two co-op titles, I know quite a few folks on staff were fans of Spliner Cell Conviction back in the day. Now that it's backwards compatible and free to pick up/own, seems like a good time to dive back in and engage in some covert action with a buddy. Death Squared is a very interesting co-op puzzle title that will challenge your brain and, at times, your friendships.

Here's when titles will be available:

  • Assault Android Cactus (Xbox One) - July 1 to July 31
  • Death Squared (Xbox One) - July 16 to August 15
  • Splinter Cell Conviction (Xbox 360, and Xbox One via BC) - July 16 to August 15
