IPL News & Tips for Betting

The IPL (Indian Premier League) 2023 cricket season is set to get underway on March 25th. If you’re looking for some of the latest IPL headlines and if you want some IPL betting tips, then you’ve come to the right place.

When does the IPL start?

Due to sponsorship reasons, the upcoming season is officially known as 2023 TATA IPL. It’s the sixteenth IPL (Indian Premier League of cricket), and it’s scheduled to commence on March 25th in a game between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This game is followed by the Mumbai Indians playing the Delhi Capitals on March 26th.

Latest IPL news

Here are some of the latest headlines from around the web pertaining to the Indian Premier League.

One story that’s currently circulating is whether new arrival Cameron Green will be fit for the beginning of the IPL 2023 or not.

Green became the second most expensive ever player at the IPL auction that took place in December 2022. The Mumbai Indians (MI) ended up paying a whopping 15.5 crore after a closely fought bidding war between them and the Delhi Capitals. According to reports, Green recently broke his finger and will not be ready for the start of the season.

However, the player quickly rubbished the rumours and stated that he should be ready in time for the start of the season, provided he is fit.

In other news, the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, who served as an advisor to the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2019, will be rejoining them, but this time as the Director of Cricket.

What are the bookies saying about who could win the IPL 2023?

Some of today’s major sports betting websites have already opened their IPL betting markets for the outright winner of the upcoming 2023 season. It looks as though the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals are the two joint-odds-on favourite teams that can most likely win the league.

The implied probability rate of either of these two teams winning the league is 14.30%. If you’re a betting person, this means that both teams have the same 6/1 UK fractional odds of winning. In European decimal odds, it works out to 7.00 odds, and in American/moneyline odds, it works out to 600.

The next two teams that are most likely to win the league behind the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, with the highest odds, are the Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. These two teams both currently have a 12.5% implied probability rate of winning, which is odds of 7/1 (fractional odds), 8.00 (decimal odds), and 700 (American/moneyline odds).

IPL betting tips

If you want to get involved with IPL online betting at trusted Indian sports betting sites, such as 10CRIC Sports (10cric10.com), then there are certain things you should be aware of before placing a real money wager. Some of the most useful IPL betting tips to remember are the following:

  • Get to grips with the different odds formats and find one that you prefer using the most (e.g., decimal, fractional, or moneyline)

  • Understanding the odds can help you pick more winners (e.g., a 1/100 favourite bet is more likely to return you a profit than a 100/1 outsider/longshot bet)

  • Stay current with the latest IPL news and carry out your own research into the teams and players before placing a wager on a match

  • Start with a budget. Don’t overspend, and never chase your losses

  • Don’t make impulsive bets or bet out of sheer necessity

  • Learn the different bet types/markets that are available in your average cricket match

  • As well as pre-match betting, don’t forget that you can also bet in-play with Live Betting markets

  • It might also be a good idea to learn the rules of cricket if you don’t already know them. Also, take the time to learn the different cricket phrases and terminology

The different bet types in cricket that you are likely to come across at today’s best cricket betting sites are markets such as total runs (over/under), first to score 50, first to score 100, top batsman, outright winner, toss winner, and dismissal method. You can also generally place a bet on the series winner, player of the match, highest opening partnership, first half-century, first century, top run scorer, and so much more.

If you can understand the odds, you are well on your way to placing more sensible bets. Don’t forget that you can often select which odds format the website is displayed in. Some people prefer using the UK fractional odds format. Others prefer the European decimal odds format, and some prefer the American/moneyline format. Remember to choose an odds format that you feel most comfortable with.

Let’s take a quick look at an example of how this works.

If India is playing Sri Lanka in an International T20 Series match, you might find that the default odds format on that website might be set to decimal odds. India could be priced at 1.33 to win the match outright, and Sri Lanka might be priced at 3.22 to win, which means that India is more likely to win.

When converted into fractional odds, it means that India is priced at 0.33/1, and when converted to American/moneyline odds, it works out to -303. It also means that India has a whopping 75.20% implied probability rate of winning. In comparison, Sri Lanka’s 3.22 decimal odds equates to 2.22/1 in UK fractional odds and 222 in American/moneyline odds and only has a 31.1% implied probability rate of winning.
