So what are some of the highlights? Well, after six years of quietly toiling away, developer The Behemoth is finally back with both a release of Alien Hominid HD for a new generation of consoles as well as the long-awaited sequel Alien Hominid Invasion. PowerWash Simulator VR on the other hand now allows would-be cleaners to dive even deeper into the experience and Dungeon Keepers got a new fix in form of Dungeons 4. Meanwhile retro fans were able to rejoice over Berzerk: Recharged, the Double Dragon Collection AND the awesome Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection. Of course we can't forget to also mention the sequel to one of our personal favourites: Risk of Rain Returns.

Of course, this wasn't the only highlight in another month packed with new releases. Bang-On Balls: Chronicles, for example, finally left Steam Early Access. Cook, Serve, Delicious! hit the Nintendo Switch, VR-fans rejoiced over Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord and the long-awaited sequel to Dungeon of the Endless, innovatively called Endless Dungeon, was released. Then on 9/25 he wrote a simple message to our beloved Nick Puleo: "Something went wrong". And something had indeed gone wrong. Our database didn't handle the software upgrade as gracefully as we expected and basically everything stopped working in the backend. No new entries were possible, existing ones couldn't be updated and even writing this news post was out of the question.

Of course, success is short lived in the world of videogames. One week you are on top of the world, the next no one cares about you anymore. And the signs are already on the horizon for Baldur's Gate III. Bethesda's upcoming Starfield may not have co-op (yet - make your bets on how long it takes the modding community to fix that), but we all know that half the globe (slight exaggeration) will jump into the vast Field of a Star in September, ourselves included... with one exception: our Database Master. He has to continue toiling away in the Database Mines to keep our database fresh and up to snuff, after all. Especially now, since it's that time of the year again, with more releases coming out each minute than anyone can feasibly play in a lifetime. For August, this meant the addition of another 149 entries to our ever-growing Behemoth and the crossing of the 13,000 total entries milestone.

In terms of new releases: they were mostly spread out evenly over the whole month and featured the usual mix of high profile titles like Jagged Alliance 3 and Remnant II finally hitting store shelves (that mostly didn't disappoint this time around), re-releases of old classics for new platforms (e.g. Twisted Metal 2 on PS4/PS5) and interesting indie titles like the point 'n click murder mystery adventure Whispers in the West. But most of these titles are still at least a couple of months away. So what was there actually available to play in June? Well, as always, quite a lot actually! We counted 53 games in our release calendar across all platforms, the biggest highlight of course being Diablo IV. But if that is too dark and brutal for you, then titles like We Love Katamari REROLL Royal Reverie or Toodee and Topdee have your back. Shoot'em up fans also had a couple of reasons to rejoice with Raiden III x MIKADO MANIAX hitting store shelves, as well as RayStorm X RayCrisis HD Collection and Ray’z Arcade Chronology.

The original Xbox Series S was released as an affordable alternative to the more powerful Xbox Series X. Whereas the Series X sells for $500, the white Series S sells for $299. The Series S is less powerful, of course, but that's a fair tradeoff for the much lower price tag. Still, the Series S has long been saddled with a meager 500 GB SSD, a paltry amount of storage for today's increasingly large games. If you wanted to play more than just a few games at a time, you basically had to buy an overpriced memory card to increase the console's storage capacity.
