I've read through the news post they put up about all of this on their website, along with their FAQ, and I'll be honest, parts of this are still confusing. So if you own the game and are concerned about being able to play it still, I strongly recommend you hit up both places and read for yourself. That being said, here's the breakdown of events leading up to the big shutdown on March 3, 2017, and what it means.

Some of the Last New Toy Sets for Disney Infinity 3.0 Now Available

You can pick up Alice, the Mad Hatter, and newcomer "Time" (played by Sacha Baron Cohen in the film) to use in the game's Toy Box mode. These will be some of the last new figures made for the game, with the next set, based on Finding Dory, marking the end to the series. It's a shame that a franchise like this has come to such an inglorious end. Not only because of the closure of Avalanche Studios and its 300 employees being put out on the street, but because it sounded like there were plans in the work to really revamp the title.

Get More Mileage Out of Disney Infinity 3.0

All of this info comes from the new "Disney Infinity Next" video that was recently released. In that video, general manager John Blackburn and vice president of production John Vignocchi discuss the overall plans Disney has for their title over the course of the year. Much of the video focuses on the more immediate releases: Zootopia figures, Marvel Battlegrounds, and the Baloo figure from the "Jungle Book", which also gets released tomorrow.

Marvel/Disney created an original story for this new set that revolves around Loki and Ultron teaming up to take the Infinity Stone from Asgard. To achieve this goal, they've created robotic duplicates of all the super heroes to distract the real heroes. As a comic book plot, that seems entirely likely/reasonable.

Disney Infinity 3.0 is not all Star Wars, its Marvel Too

The world of Disney Infinity has rapidly grown over the years from traditional Disney animations to their live action films. 2.0 introduced Marvel, whilst 3.0 is the turn of Star Wars. Rather than abandoning all the great characters of earlier games Infinity has built upon them, meaning that you can have Yoda taking on Hulkbuster in the Toybox mode.

Now Star Wars fans young and old can experience the universe through Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition and the large amount of content surrounding it. Recently, Disney released tons of screenshots for two of the three Star Wars playsets coming up. In total, there will be three different playsets coming to 3.0 featuring three different eras of the Star Wars canon: the Episodes I-III era, the Episodes IV-VI era, and the Force Awakens era.
