These have all been well and good, but they pale in comparison to the "Invasion" update, which is out now.  With "Invasion", Holospark has added a horde mode, a player progression system, four new maps, and all kinds of new skins to the game.  Alongside that, they've completely reworked the weapon audio.  There are definitely a lot of changes here, but thankfully, Holospark has also provided a tidy trailer to make sure you're not missing anything.

"Left 4 Dead, but with aliens" may be reductive, but it's also a pretty accurate way to sum up what's going on in Earthfall. That said, there are some things that make Earthfall stand out. The enemy sound design and, in a few cases, the enemies themselves are pretty unique. Missions that feature some kind of "hold up here and defend against a horde" objective are particularly interesting/fun and feel like the best cooperative experience. In those cases, you may be provided with things like barricades, mounted/automated turrets, and/or 3D gun printers so you can setup your defenses. It's then up to your team to figure out the best placement of those defenses, whether or not to move them in them in the middle of an attack, and who's setting up where.

Earthfall will see a full release on July 13th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.  It's been in Steam's Early Access program for some time, though, so it's not necessarily an unknown quantity.  While Steam's user rating system is notably fickle and subject to change, the game has currently garnered a "Mostly Positive" rating on the platform, which isn't easy for an Early Access title.

Much like in Left 4 Dead, Earthfall lets up to four players team up to battle through a variety of campaigns with each campaign further split up into a series of missions. The missions will task players with fulfilling certain objectives but unlike that zombie shooter that was constantly pushing you forward, Earthfall lets you build little outposts that can be used as a kind of base of operations. You can construct defenses, like barriers, and put up turrets to better stave off the alien menace. At the moment, there is only one campaign available and four missions within that campaign, so it's still early on in the development.

The game made its debut during this year's PAX West and somehow managed to slip past our radar at the time. This sci-fi FPS is set in the Pacific Northwest and follows a "ragtag group of survivors" as they combat an invading alien menace. It supports four player co-op throughout the campaign and, from the sound of it, is actually intended to be played through with a group as the A.I. will assume control of other characters if human players aren't available.
