Kalimba keeps its gameplay nice and straightforward. You control totem pieces who move in tandem, triggering platforms, swapping positions, and opening switches by working as a team. Stack them together and you get to do things like double jumping and quadruple jumping. Local splitscreen lets two players control their own stacked colored totems to navigate color-based puzzles together. It's pretty intense, but since everything's so pretty, you'll be fine.

Kalimba keeps its co-op simple. Two players join in for some split screen jump-n-solve action that centers around getting the cute little geometric totem characters from one end of each level to the other. Your usual battery of "I'll hold this switch while you go through the door it opens" puzzles are there, but since the game revolves around stackable critters that can double and quadruple jump, things quickly get more interesting. The goal is to play well with your co-op partner so you want to "slap each other on the back -- and hopefully nowhere else".

Players controls totems whose goal is to reclaim the Kalimbra island from an evil shaman. There's a solo and co-op campaign, with the co-op campaign being unlocked from the very start. The co-op campaign is described as having "everything doubled," except the double jump: that's quadrupled! Creative Director Asger Strandby explains the co-op mode as a "kind of friendship tester - if you can play the game and high-five more than you slap each other, you're probably ready to get married."
