As you know, the 2 player co-op shooter The House of the Dead: Overkill comes out this week.  You may have read our impressions of it?  What you didn't know was that Sega has just launched a poster creator for the game, and to put it blunty - it's friggin awesome.

Sega's booth was one of the most active on the NY Comic Con show floor.  Whether that's because they were giving out free t-shirts, or because they had a ton of great games...well that's yet to be seen.  Buried deep within the confines of the booth, hidden behind zombies giving out comics and hugs...yes zombie hugs...was House of the Dead Overkill.  The game is a two player co-op shooter for the Wii, and it's the first House of the Dead game that isn't based on an arcade title.

We talked briefly about House of the Dead Overkill on the latest Co-Opticast, but had I visited the recently launch official homepage...well I would have been even more excited.  The site features some funky beats (and strong language) in the background, while the foreground is loaded with zombies and 70's style comic goodness.

We've been covering House of the Dead Overkill for quite a while now.  Our love for shooting zombies has no bounds, it seems, and HotD Overkill looks to scratch that itch nicely.  The folks over at N-Europe have some information about the collector's edition of the Wii-mote based shooter.  An exclusive and uncensored (and we do mean uncensored, the link below leading to N-Europe is likely NSFW) graphic novel will be the main feature of the collector's edition.  The graphic novel will introduce players to the story leading up to the action in the game itself.  (Do we really need a story?  Kill the zombies, we got it...)  Higher resolution pictures of the cover and first two pages of the graphic novel are available there as well.  House of the Dead Overkill is due first quarter of 2009.  If you're lucky, and persistent, you might be through your holiday stack of games by then.

That's right, the 2 player co-op shooter for the Wii ooozes style.  With a film grain look, pops and scratches, and a new art style, the whole game is a semi-reboot of the series.  Sega created the game from the ground up to take advantage of the Wii hardware,  and while the game is still an on-rails shooter for the most part, there is some freedom in movement of the camera using the Wii-mote.   Unfortunately according to the Eurogamer preview, in it's current state, it's somewhat broken for co-op play.

Resident Evil 5Left 4 Dead.  Dead Rising.  Bikini Zombie Slayers.  Even Diablo III features zombies.  I can't think of a time when the genre has been more popular.  Yet another new zombie title is coming soon, this time headed for the Wii, home of a remake of the arcade shooters House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return .  This time, though, it's not a lightgun style game, but a more action-oriented one: House of the Dead: Overkill.  Siliconera has a few details about the title.  Wagging around the remote will be featured, letting players pistol whip zombies.  Sounds like fun to me!  The protagonists of the game will have interesting abilities, like slowing down time, Matrix-style, and the Evil Eye, which sounds awesome but really just lets you see destructible parts of the environment.  A sweet, campy trailer and a couple more screenshots are also available for your viewing enjoyment.  Few details about the co-op have been revealed, though it seems likely that two zombie slayers will be able to play together.  The pistol whipping will commence when the game is released in "half a year".
